Lasiodiplodia species are commonly as endophytes, saprobes and pathogens in tropics and subtropics. During an investigation of Botryosphaeriaceae in Thailand, two Lasiodiplodia taxa were isolated. Morphological characteristics and phylogenetic analyses based on combined ITS, tef and tub2 sequence data support the establishment of a novel species, Lasiodiplodia chiangraiensis, isolated from woody hosts. Lasiodiplodia chiangraiensis is phylogenetically close to L. iraniensis and L. thailandica, but represents a distinct lineage. The new species could be distinguished from extant Lasiodiplodia species by its mature conidial dimensions. A detailed description and illustration are provided, as well as an updated phylogenetic tree (ITS, tef and tub2) including all species (with available molecular data) of Lasiodiplodia. In addition, the accepted genera in Botryosphaeriaceae based on recent studies are given.

During our investigations of saprobic fungi, five fungal collections from terrestrial habitats in China and Thailand were examined using both morphological and multi-gene phylogenetic approaches (LSU, ITS, tef1-α, and rpb2), resulting in the identification of three novel species: Helicosporium rubrum, Neohelicomyces maolanensis, and N. subtropicus. Helicosporium and Neohelicomyces are morphologically similar in their asexual morphs but can be distinguished based on their molecular phylogenetic data. In this study, our new species, Helicosporium rubrum, represents the fourth sexual species within the genus, characterized by yellow-brown ascomata and fusiform ascospores. Detailed descriptions, illustrations, phylogenetic analysis results, and corresponding notes are provided to clarify the distinctions between these new species and related taxa.

Fungi are eukaryotes that inhabit various ecosystems worldwide and have a decomposing effect that other organisms cannot replace. Fungi are divided into two main groups depending on how their sexual spores are formed, viz. Ascomycota and Basidiomycota. The members of Botryosphaeriales (Dothideomycetes, Ascomycota) are ubiquitous. They are pathogenic on a wide range of hosts, causing diverse diseases including dieback, canker, leaf spots and root rots and are also reported as saprobes and endophytes worldwide. As an important fungal group, of which most are plant pathogens, it is necessary to organize data and information on Botryosphaeriales so that scientific literature can be used effectively. For this purpose, a new website, https://botryosphaeriales.org is established to gather all published data together with updates on the present taxonomy of Botryosphaeriales. The website consists of an easy-to-operate searching system and provides an up-to-date classification together with accounts of Botryosphaeriales taxa, including colour illustrations, descriptions, notes and numbers of species in each genus, as well as their classification. Thus, readers will be able to obtain information on botryosphaerialean taxa through this platform. Database URL: https://botryosphaeriales.org/

Velutinus sichuanensis gen. et sp. nov. was collected from dead branches of the medicinal plant Loropetalum chinense var. rubrum (Hamamelidaceae) in Sichuan Province, China. The genus Velutinus is characterized by having cylindrical, straight or slightly curved, septate, hyaline conidiophores, holoblastic, polyblastic conidiogenous cells, and thick-walled, dark brown, septate, spherical conidia, sometimes with conspicuous appendages. Molecular phylogenetic analyses based on the combined ITS and LSU sequences data showed that Velutinus forms a distinct lineage in Patellariopsidaceae, Helotiales, Leotiomycetes. The new genus, Velutinus is introduced to accommodate V. sichuanensis based on morphological characteristics and multi-gene phylogenetic analyses. Detailed descriptions and illustrations of the new taxa are provided.

Medicinal plants serve as vital resources for preventing and treating diseases, with their flowers, fruits, leaves, roots, or entire plants being utilized in the pharmaceutical industry or as direct therapeutic agents. During our investigation of microfungi associated with medicinal plants in Guizhou and Sichuan Provinces, China, several asexual and sexual fungal morphs were collected. Multi-locus phylogenetic analysis based on combined ITS, LSU, SSU and TEF1-α datasets revealed that these taxa are related to the family Dictyosporiaceae. Morphological characteristics, along with multi-locus phylogenetic analysis, supported the establishment of Dictyocheirospora alangii sp. nov. and Pseudocoleophoma rosae sp. nov., as well as the introduction of a novel genus Neoxylochrysis, which accommodates Neoxylochrysis typhicola comb. nov. (≡Pseudocoleophoma typhicola). In addition, four new host records are introduced for Aquadictyospora lignicola from Periploca forrestii, Dendryphiella eucalyptorum from Leonurus japonicus, Ophiopogon japonicus and Sambucus javanica, D. vinosa from Phytolacca americana, and Dictyocheirospora rotunda from Euonymus japonicus and Prinsepia utilis. Detailed descriptions, micrographs of the new taxa and a phylogenetic tree are provided.

During a survey of saprobic fungi on medicinal plants in Southwestern China, thirty-nine hyphomycetous collections belonging to Dictyosporiaceae, Melanommataceae, and Stachybotryaceae were identified, representing nineteen distinct species. These taxa were characterised and identified based on morphological and culture characteristics, coupled with phylogenetic analyses of combined sequences of calmodulin (cmdA), the internal transcribed spacer region of ribosomal DNA (ITS), nuclear large subunit ribosomal DNA (LSU), RNA polymerase second-largest subunit (rpb2), the translation elongation factor 1-alpha (tef1-α), and β-tubulin (tub2). Twelve novel species are described, including Camposporium alangii, C. polygoni, Dendryphiella verrucosispora, Jalapriya cheirospora, Memnoniella cnidiicola, M. guttulatispora, M. reniformis, M. reynoutriae, M. verrucosispora, Sirastachys aspidistrae, Sir. ellipsoidispora, and Striatibotrys biguttulatispora. Additionally, three new host records, M. alishanensis, Sir. castanedae, and Stachybotrys chartarum, and four new hosts and geographical records of M. ellipsoidea, M. pseudonilagirica, Str. rhabdospora, and Virgatospora echinofibrosa are reported. Memnoniella nilagirica is revised and synonymised under M. pseudonilagirica. Key morphological characteristics, hosts specificity, and distributional data of Memnoniella, Sirastachys, and Striatibotrys were summarised. This study provides comprehensive illustrations, descriptions, and notes for each new taxon and record, marking the first report of these species from medicinal plants.
