Dr. Roger Philip Giddings is a senior lecturer of Optical Communications and DSP at the Digital Signal Processing Centre of Excellence, School of Computer Science and Engineering at Bangor University, Bangor, UK. He received his BEng. (Hons.) degree in Engineering Science and Technology from Loughborough University in 1989, and a Ph.D. in Optical Communications from Bangor University in 2012. During his Ph.D. degree in the area of high-speed optical communication systems for next-generation optical networks, Dr. Giddings successfully implemented an experimental system to demonstrate real-time DSP-based Optical OFDM transmission, which was the world’s first Optical OFDM system capable of real-time end-to-end transmission at >10Gb/s. He was awarded a lectureship in 2012, and was promoted to senior lecturer in 2016. Dr. Giddings continues his research on DSP-enabled optical communication systems to achieve dynamically reconfigurable optical networks that seamlessly converge traditional metro, access, and 4G/5G mobile fronthaul/backhaul.
