With the emergence of microblogging platforms and social media applications, large amounts of user-generated data in the form of comments, reviews, and brief text messages are produced every day. Microblog data is typically of poor quality; hence improving the quality of the data is a significant scientific and practical challenge. In spite of the relevance of the problem, there has been not much work so far, especially in regard to microblog data quality for Short-Text Topic Modelling (STTM) purposes. This paper addresses this problem and proposes an approach called the social media data cleansing model (SMDCM) to improve data quality for STTM. We evaluate SMDCM using six topic modelling methods, namely the Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA), Word-Network Topic Model (WNTM), Pseudo-document-based Topic Modelling (PTM), Biterm Topic Model (BTM), Global and Local word embedding-based Topic Modeling (GLTM), and Fuzzy Topic modelling (FTM). We used the Real-world Cyberbullying Twitter (RW-CB-Twitter) and the Cyberbullying Mendeley (CB-MNDLY) datasets in the evaluation. The results proved the efficiency of the GLTM and WNTM over the other STTM models when applying the SMDCM techniques, which achieved optimum topic coherence and high accuracy values on RW-CB-Twitter and CB-MNDLY datasets.

In bioinformatics, medical diagnosis models might be significantly impacted by high-dimensional data generated by high-throughput technologies. This data includes redundant or irrelevant genes making it challenging to identify the relevant genes from such high-dimensional data. Therefore, an effective feature selection (FS) technique can significantly reduce the degree of dimensionality to enhance the performance and accuracy of medical diagnosis. Cuckoo Search Algorithm (CSA) is applied for gene selection and found to be effective in terms of exploitation, exploration, and convergence. However, most of the current CSA-based FS techniques deal with gene selection problem as a single objective rather than a multi-objective mechanism. This article proposes a Multi-Objective Binary Cuckoo Search Algorithm (MOBCSA) for gene selection. The MOBCSA extends the standard CSA considering multiple objectives such as accuracy of classification and number of selected genes. MOBCSA utilizes S-shaped transfer function for transforming the algorithm’s search space from a continuous to a binary search space. MOBCSA integrates two components: an external archive to save the pareto optimal solutions attained during the search process and an adaptive crowding distance updating mechanism integrated into the archive to maintain diversity and increase the coverage of optimal solutions. To evaluate the performance of MOBCSA, the evaluation experiments were conducted on six benchmark biomedical datasets using three different classifiers. Then, the obtained experimental results were compared against four multi-objective-based state of the art FS methods. The findings prove that MOBCSA surpasses the other methods in both accuracy of classification and number of selected genes, where it has obtained an average accuracy ranging from 92.79% to 98.42% and an average number of selected genes ranging from 15.67 to 27.88 for different classifiers and datasets.

The rapid expansion of social media platforms has resulted in an unprecedented surge of short text content being generated on a daily basis. Extracting valuable insights and patterns from this vast volume of textual data necessitates specialized techniques that can effectively condense information while preserving its core essence. In response to this challenge, automatic short text summarization (ASTS) techniques have emerged as a compelling solution, gaining significant importance in their development. This paper delves into the domain of summarizing short text on social media, exploring various types of short text and the associated challenges they present. It also investigates the approaches employed to generate concise and meaningful summaries. By providing a survey of the latest methods and potential avenues for future research, this paper contributes to the advancement of ASTS in the ever-evolving landscape of social media communication.

The field of text summarization has evolved from basic extractive methods that identify key sentences to sophisticated abstractive techniques that generate contextually meaningful summaries. In today’s digital landscape, where an immense volume of textual data is produced every day, the need for concise and coherent summaries is more crucial than ever. However, summarizing short texts, particularly from platforms like Twitter, presents unique challenges due to character constraints, informal language, and noise from elements such as hashtags, mentions, and URLs. To overcome these challenges, this paper introduces a deep learning framework for automated short text summarization on Twitter. The proposed approach combines bidirectional encoder representations from transformers (BERT) with a transformer-based encoder–decoder architecture (TEDA), incorporating an attention mechanism to improve contextual understanding. Additionally, long short-term memory (LSTM) networks are integrated within BERT to effectively capture long-range dependencies in tweets and their summaries. This hybrid model ensures that generated summaries remain informative, concise, and contextually relevant while minimizing redundancy. The performance of the proposed framework was assessed using three benchmark Twitter datasets—Hagupit, SHShoot, and Hyderabad Blast—with ROUGE scores serving as the evaluation metric. Experimental results demonstrate that the model surpasses existing approaches in accurately capturing key information from tweets. These findings underscore the framework’s effectiveness in automated short text summarization, offering a robust solution for efficiently processing and summarizing large-scale social media content.

In the era of big data, effectively processing and understanding the vast quantities of brief texts on social media platforms like Twitter (X) is a significant challenge. This paper introduces a novel approach to automatic text summarization aimed at improving accuracy while minimizing redundancy. The proposed method involves a two-step process: first, feature extraction using term frequency–inverse document frequency (TF–IDF), and second, summary extraction through genetic optimized fully connected convolutional neural networks (GO-FC-CNNs). The approach was evaluated on datasets from the Kaggle collection, focusing on topics like FIFA, farmer demonstrations, and COVID-19, demonstrating its versatility across different domains. Preprocessing steps such as tokenization, stemming, stop word s removal, and keyword identification were employed to handle unprocessed data. The integration of genetic optimization into the neural network significantly improved performance compared to traditional methods. Evaluation using the ROUGE criteria showed that the proposed method achieved higher accuracy (98.00%), precision (98.30%), recall (98.72%), and F1-score (98.61%) than existing approaches. These findings suggest that this method can help create a reliable and effective system for large-scale social media data processing, enhancing data dissemination and decision-making.
