Shanshan (Susan) Song, MD/PhD Research Assistant Professor Dr. Song’s research interests focus on studying the cellular/molecular mechanisms of microglia in ischemic stroke and traumatic brain injury and tissue repair. Using the advanced Cre-loxP conditional knockout technique and state-of-the-art RNAseq bioinformatic analysis, she discovered that microglia play critical roles in neuroinflammation, phagocytosis, and microglia–oligodendrocyte crosstalk for white matter remyelination after brain injury. Dr. Song is investigating ion transporter protein Na/H exchanger in regulating microglial metabolisms in brain tissue repair as a novel therapeutic strategy.
