Maria (Miranda) Drogari-Apiranthitou is a graduate of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA), School of Medicine, Greece (Medical Degree 1978, PhD 1991) and Board-certified Clinical Microbiologist. Currently, Head of the Research Laboratory of Infectious Diseases, Microbiology and Mycology sections, 4th Department of Medicine, School of Medicine, NKUA. Has served as consultant (National Health System) in the Depts of Hematology and Immunology of Aghia Sophia Children’s Hospital, Athens, Greece, and in the Microbiology Dept. of Ippokrateio General Hospital of Athens. Research in Tumor Immunology at the Mario Negri Institute of Pharmacological Research, Milan, Italy (EU scholarship) and in the Netherlands, as Postdoc and senior research associate in the field of Immunology of Infectious Diseases at the AMC, University of Amsterdam, and clinical work as visiting fellow, consultant in Clinical Microbiology, at the Erasmus MC in Rotterdam. Her research interests include Clinical Mycology, epidemiology of fungal infections, molecular diagnosis, antifungal resistance. Member of ISHAM, ECMM, Hellenic Society of Medical Mycology (elected special secretary), Mediterranean Institute for the study and training in Infection Prevention & Management (elected treasurer). She has received abstract awards and a William Jarvis Award (2018) for outstanding international clinical study. Reviewer for international journals, associate editor for JIDC, guest editor for J. Fungi.
