Mobile edge computing (MEC) has become a promising technique to accommodate demands of resource-constrained mobile devices by offloading the task onto edge clouds nearby. However, most existing works only focus on whether to offload or where to offload the task but ignore the motivations of edge clouds to offer service. In this paper, we first propose an incentive mechanism in a non-competitive environment. We utilize market-based profit maximization pricing model to establish the relationship between the resources provided by edge clouds and the price charged to mobile devices. By solving the optimization problem, we provide a reasonable pricing strategy to not only ensure the profit of resource providers but guarantee the quality of experience (QoE) of mobile devices. Furthermore, we design an online profit maximization multi-round auction (PMMRA) mechanism for the resource trading between edge clouds as sellers and mobile devices as buyers in a competitive environment. The mechanism can effectively determine the price paid by buyers to use the resources provided by sellers and make the corresponding match between edge clouds and mobile devices. Finally, numerical results show that proposed mechanism outperforms other existing algorithms in maximizing the profit of edge clouds.

Traffic Surveillance Systems (TSS) have become increasingly crucial in modern intelligent transportation systems, with vision technologies playing a central role for scene perception and understanding. While existing surveys typically focus on isolated aspects of TSS, a comprehensive analytical framework bridging low-level and high-level perception tasks, particularly considering emerging technologies, remains lacking. This article presents a systematic review of vision technologies in TSS, examining both low-level perception tasks (object detection, classification, and tracking) and high-level perception tasks (parameter estimation, anomaly detection, and behavior understanding). Specifically, we first provide a detailed methodological categorization and comprehensive performance evaluation for each task. Our investigation reveals five fundamental limitations in current TSS: perceptual data degradation in complex scenarios, data-driven learning constraints, semantic understanding gaps, sensing coverage limitations, and computational resource demands. To address these challenges, we systematically analyze five categories of current approaches and potential trends: advanced perception enhancement, efficient learning paradigms, knowledge-enhanced understanding, cooperative sensing frameworks, and efficient computing frameworks, critically assessing their real-world applicability. Furthermore, we evaluate the transformative potential of foundation models in TSS, which exhibit remarkable zero-shot learning abilities, strong generalization, and sophisticated reasoning capabilities across diverse tasks. This review provides a unified analytical framework bridging low-level and high-level perception tasks, systematically analyzes current limitations and solutions, and presents a structured roadmap for integrating emerging technologies, particularly foundation models, to enhance TSS capabilities.

With the popularization of electric vehicles (EVs), EV charging demand is becoming an important load in the building. Considering the mobility of EVs from building to building and their uncertain charging demand, it is of great practical interest to control the EV charging process in a microgrid of buildings to optimize the total operation cost while ensuring transmission security between the microgrid and the main grid. We consider this important problem in this article and make the following contributions. First, we formulate this problem as a Markov decision process (MDP) to capture the uncertain supply and EV charging demand in the microgrid of buildings. Besides reducing the total operation cost of buildings, the model also considers the power exchange limitation to ensure transmission security. Second, this model is reformulated within an event-based optimization (EBO) framework to mitigate the impact of large state and action space. A randomized parametric event-based control policy is proposed for the microgrid controller to determine the charge ratio for each building. Then, a selecting-to-charging principle is implemented for each building controller to determine the charge control of each EV in the building. Third, a constrained gradient-based policy optimization method is developed to find the optimal event-based control policy. Furthermore, an adjustment mechanism is also introduced to ensure transmission security during optimization. Numerical experiments are conducted to analyze the structure and the performance of the event-based control policy for EV charging in a microgrid of three buildings.

The application of beam-hopping technology to low earth orbit satellites can effectively achieve flexible allocation and efficient utilization of on-board resources. Considering that the power resources on low earth orbit satellites are limited, the electromagnetic environment is complex and changeable, and the terminal distribution and service requirements are highly dynamic. We established the service model, service priority model and multibeam resource scheduling model under the constraints of beam bandwidth, on-board power, service priorities, etc. To solve the catastrophic problem of a large solution space in the resource scheduling model and to improve the convergence of the algorithm, we propose an enhanced artificial bee colony algorithm. The optimization strategy improves the process of population initialization, solution updates, and search for the global optimal solution. The simulation results show that under the constraints of cochannel interference and on-board resource utilization, the algorithm always converges to the objective function at the fastest speed, which proves that the algorithm has high applicability to the high dynamic characteristics of LEO satellites. In addition, the algorithm can obtain the global optimal solution, and thus, it can ensure the fairness of resource allocation and the effectiveness of service completion.

The electric vehicle (EV) utilizing vehicle-to-grid (V2G) technology can serve as an important mobile storage in a microgrid of building. Since more and more buildings are equipped with charging piles and distributed renewable energy, it can potentially improve the operation efficiency of building microgrid and reduce the impact of EVs to the grid by V2G scheduling considering the uncertain supply and EV charging demand in the building. We consider this important problem in this paper and make the following contributions. First, we formulate this V2G scheduling problem as a constrained Markov decision process (CMDP). The objective function is to improve the overall building energy operation cost while constraining the expected cycling time to ensure the participation enthusiasm of the EV users. Second, a simulation-based primal-dual approach is developed to decompose the original problem into a continuous optimization subproblem on the supply side and a discrete optimization subproblem on the demand side. The demand side optimization can be further decoupled as a distributed single EV scheduling problem where simulation-based regularized rollout method can be applied to improve from existing base policies. Third, the structural property of the problem and the cost improvement of the proposed method are analyzed to speed up the optimization and ensure the solution quality. Numerical experiments based on real building load data and EV data are conducted to demonstrate the performance of this method. Note to Practitioners—With the rapid adoption of EVs in the microgrid of building, there goes the challenge of how to reduce their charging impact to the microgrid. The V2G scheduling between EVs and building microgrid can provide a promising way to reduce the impact and improve the building operation efficiency. However, it suffers from the uncertain EV charging demand and the conflict between synthesized coordination and ensuring the participation enthusiasm of drivers. In this paper, we propose a constrained V2G scheduling model to address this issue. After formulating the problem as a constrained Markov decision process, a simulation-based primal-dual approach is developed to decompose the problem where the derived control policy in the supply side can be deployed in the building energy controller and the derived control policy in the demand side can be deployed in the controller of each charging pile. Case studies show the performance of the proposed method and its win-win property for the building and EV users.
