Some sustainable tourism development studies address support issues for local communities as well as brand destination factors, but to date there has not been rigorous scrutiny of support for varieties of tourism in the urban context. The purpose of the study is to assess residents’ views and support for sustainable tourism development in urban destinations. A quantitative and cultural methodology is used in this study with the participation of 451 residents in three large communities in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. The study finds that: (1) the measure of communities’ support is determined by residents' perceptions, residents’ perception of value, collaboration and emotional solidarity with their community; (2) there is a relationship between collaboration and emotional solidarity in the context of sustainable development. Thus, the paper carefully considers the two significant factors of collaboration and emotional solidarity in assessing influences upon residents’ support for sustainable tourism development. The findings provide more useful evidence for planning and managing sustainable development as well as in marketing strategies in other areas of tourism, such as industry infrastructure and transportation links, quality of hospitality and service facilities and archeological effort to develop urban travel offerings of historical interest.

The Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has compelled tourism experts to devise efficient ways to attract visitors. Based on the theory of planned behavior (TPB) model, this study created a comprehensive model of residents’ trust in government performance, perceived risk, and travel intention. The model was tested on 469 Vietnamese residents using confirmatory factor analysis and structural equation modeling. The findings reveal that perceived risk negatively impacts attitudes toward travel, perceived behavioral control, and subjective norms, while trust in government performance positively impacts these categories. Furthermore, attitude toward travel, perceived behavioral control, and subjective norms positively influence a tourist's travel intention. This study offers theoretical and practical insights into how to build safe tourism practices and design appropriate COVID-19 recovery programs in the tourism industry.

This study examined the direct and indirect relationships between perceptions of destination social responsibility and environmentally responsible behavior. This paper uses the Stimulus–Organism–Response theory to evaluate the mediating roles of identification, reputation, and satisfaction of the destination for visitors. With a sample size of 371 Vietnamese tourists, PLS-SEM was used to assess the model and test the hypothesis. The findings indicate that the perception of destination social responsibility positively impacts Vietnamese tourists’ commitment to environmentally responsible behavior. The results also support the concept that the degree of tourists’ environmentally responsible behavior is indirectly influenced by the perceived social responsibility of the destination through its identification, reputation, and satisfaction. This study offers theoretical and practical insights into how to enhance the efficiency of destination social responsibility programs and improve Vietnamese tourist’s impressions of Phu Quoc.

This study presents a bibliometric review of global research trends on electric vehicles (EVs) and urban tourism within the context of smart cities, emphasizing the economic and policy dimensions of sustainable mobility and infrastructure investment. Drawing from 593 publications indexed in the Web of Science from 2005 to April 2025, the analysis explores document types, leading research areas, alignment with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), influential authors, and highly cited works. A keyword co-occurrence analysis reveals six major thematic clusters, highlighting key topics such as EV adoption behavior, renewable energy policy, wireless charging technology, and semiconductor innovation. Engineering and physics emerged as dominant research areas, with SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy) and SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) most frequently represented. The findings underline a growing interdisciplinary effort to integrate EV technologies with urban tourism through smart, carbon-neutral transport systems, supported by policy frameworks, green investment incentives, and digital infrastructure. This review identifies research gaps and opportunities to advance energy-efficient, economically viable, and tourism-oriented mobility solutions in smart cities by mapping the current knowledge landscape.
