Dr. Stephen J. Scholand is a passionate infectious disease specialist and internal
medicine physician with over 25 years of clinical experience. He is a graduate
of the George Washington University School of Medicine in Washington DC, USA.
He subsequently trained at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia
for internship, residency, and fellowship in infectious diseases. Dr. Scholand
is currently a Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine in Infectious Diseases
at the University of Arizona. He is active in the Nuvance Global Health Program
as an educator. He has a particular interest in rabies, as he experienced
firsthand the true horrors of the disease working on a human rabies ward in the
Philippines. Each case was a tragedy, particularly as children were affected. Dr.
Scholand said he was never the same after that – the experience changed his
life. He went on to found the charity “A Rabies Free World” focusing on rabies education
as a means to create change. Stephen follows in the footsteps of his late
father, Dr. Joseph F. Scholand, who for more than 30 years dedicated his life to
patient care.
