The relationship between face and disease has been discussed from thousands years ago, which leads to the occurrence of facial diagnosis. The objective here is to explore the possibility of identifying diseases from uncontrolled 2D face images by deep learning techniques. In this paper, we propose using deep transfer learning from face recognition to perform the computer-aided facial diagnosis on various diseases. In the experiments, we perform the computer-aided facial diagnosis on single (beta-thalassemia) and multiple diseases (beta-thalassemia, hyperthyroidism, Down syndrome, and leprosy) with a relatively small dataset. The overall top-1 accuracy by deep transfer learning from face recognition can reach over 90% which outperforms the performance of both traditional machine learning methods and clinicians in the experiments. In practical, collecting disease-specific face images is complex, expensive and time consuming, and imposes ethical limitations due to personal data treatment. Therefore, the datasets of facial diagnosis related researches are private and generally small comparing with the ones of other machine learning application areas. The success of deep transfer learning applications in the facial diagnosis with a small dataset could provide a low-cost and noninvasive way for disease screening and detection.

In the last decade, advances and popularity of low-cost RGB-D sensors have enabled us to acquire depth information of objects. Consequently, researchers began to solve face recognition problems by capturing RGB-D face images using these sensors. Until now, it is not easy to acquire the depth of human faces because of limitations imposed by privacy policies, and RGB face images are still more common. Therefore, obtaining the depth map directly from the corresponding RGB image could be helpful to improve the performance of subsequent face processing tasks, such as face recognition. Intelligent creatures can use a large amount of experience to obtain 3D spatial information only from 2D plane scenes. It is machine learning methodology, which is to solve such problems, that can teach computers to generate correct answers by training. To replace the depth sensors by generated pseudo-depth maps, in this article, we propose a pseudo RGB-D face recognition framework and provide data-driven ways to generate the depth maps from 2D face images. Specially we design and implement a generative adversarial network model named “D+GAN” to perform the multiconditional image-to-image translation with face attributes. By this means, we validate the pseudo RGB-D face recognition with experiments on various datasets. With the cooperation of image fusion technologies, especially non-subsampled shearlet transform (NSST), the accuracy of face recognition has been significantly improved.

Thanks to the development of deep learning, machine abnormal sound detection (MASD) based on unsupervised learning has exhibited excellent performance. However, in the task of unsupervised MASD, there are discrepancies between the acoustic characteristics of the test set and the training set under the physical parameter changes (domain shifts) of the same machine's operating conditions. Existing methods not only struggle to stably learn the sound signal features under various domain shifts but also inevitably increase computational overhead. To address these issues, we propose an unsupervised machine abnormal sound detection model based on Transformer and Dynamic Graph Convolution (Unsuper-TDGCN) in this paper. Firstly, we design a network that models time-frequency domain features to capture both global and local spatial and time-frequency interactions, thus improving the model's stability under domain shifts. Then, we introduce a Dynamic Graph Convolutional Network (DyGCN) to model the dependencies between features under domain shifts, enhancing the model's ability to perceive changes in domain features. Finally, a Domain Self-adaptive Network (DSN) is employed to compensate for the performance decline caused by domain shifts, thereby improving the model's adaptive ability for detecting anomalous sounds in MASD tasks under domain shifts. The effectiveness of our proposed model has been validated on multiple datasets.

Urban traffic congestion is often concentrated at urban intersections. An urban road traffic signal control system is needed to prevent problems such as driving delays caused by frequent traffic congestions on trunk lines, exhaust emissions owing to frequent start and stop of vehicles, and fuel wastage due to long idling times. Maximizing the traffic capacity of an intersection and reducing the delay rate of vehicles has always been a problem for traffic control research. The coordinated control of urban traffic signals is regarded as a multi-objective optimization problem. A mathematical model for urban trunk traffic is studied herein. An average delay model, average queue length model, total delay calculation model for vehicles at intersections, and vehicle exhaust emission model are established to obtain an optimization model for a new traffic trunk coordinated control system. In addition, our study combines the fuzzy control theory with the adaptive sequencing mutation multi-objective differential evolution algorithm (FASM-MDEA). This new optimization method for traffic signal control at urban intersections is proposed as a solution for the traffic flow optimization model to solve the problem of traffic signal coordination and control of urban trunk lines. The simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the model optimization algorithm proposed in this study.

The Pantograph-Catenary System (PCS) is a critical component of railway vehicles, and its performance directly affects current collection quality. The arc rate serves as an essential measurement indicator for monitoring PCS state. However, in complex railway environments—where arc sizes and shapes can vary significantly and are further influenced by factors such as reflected light, glare, and adverse weather—traditional arc detection methods are easily affected by unstable current collection and power fluctuations, resulting in increased false detection rates and reduced measurement accuracy. Deep learning methods, while promising, also face limitations when dealing with such diverse arc morphologies and strong external interference. To address these challenges, this paper proposes a Multi-Modal Imitation Learning-based Arc Detection Network (MILADNet). First, the measurement system fuses infrared and visible-light image features to enhance arc feature extraction in scenarios with strong glare or reflective interference, thereby mitigating false alarms caused by relying on a single sensor. Second, to overcome the lack of information on small arcs, an online imitation learning framework is introduced to improve the system’s detection sensitivity for small arcs. Finally, to address data bias arising from uneven arc distributions, an unsupervised transferable representation learning method is employed to reduce dependence on labeled data and enhance model generalization. Experimental results show that MILADNet exhibits outstanding detection performance for arcs of various sizes and in complex environments, demonstrating both high efficiency and accuracy during measurement and data processing. Beyond improving the precision and reliability of arc detection, this method offers a novel solution for the instrumentation and measurement field and shows significant potential for condition monitoring and anomaly detection in railway systems.
