1961 Born in Florence, Italy 1986 Degree in Medicine, with honours, University of Florence. 1987 Fellowship from the Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei. 1988-90 Fellowship from the Italian Association for Cancer Research (AIRC. 1992-00 Associate Professor of Histology, University of Florence Faculty of Medicine 2000- Full Professor of Histology, University of Florence School of Health Sciences. 2018-2021 President of the National Committee for Qualification to Professorship (ASN,); Italian Ministry of University and Research 1992-2022 Scientific director of research projects funded by the University of Florence, Italy, by the Italian Ministry of Education, Research and University (COFIN 2000-02, 2002-04), by the Italian National Research Council (1997-98), by Telethon Foundation (2003), by Italian Space Agency (2019-2022). Research activity Main fields of expertise as a researcher: i) morpho-functional characterization of cells and tissues of the cardiovascular system in normal conditions and in experimental models of disease ; ii) biological and pharmacological effects of the peptide hormone relaxin and its molecular mechanisms of action; iii) biological and therapeutic effects of visible and IR light, iv) cell and tissue models of wound healing in low gravity conditions for space medicine.
