In the process of rice production, rice pests are one of the main factors that cause rice yield reduction. To implement prevention and control measures, it is necessary to accurately identify the types of rice pests and diseases. However, the application of image recognition technologies focused on the agricultural field, especially in the field of rice disease and pest identification, is relatively limited. Existing research on rice diseases and pests has problems such as single data types, low data volume, and low recognition accuracy. Therefore, we constructed the rice pest and disease dataset (RPDD), which was expanded through data enhancement methods. Then, based on the ResNet structure and the convolutional attention mechanism module, we proposed a Lightweight Multi-scale Feature Extraction Network (LMN) to extract multi-scale features at a finer granularity. The proposed LMN model achieved an average classification accuracy of 95.38% and an F1-Score of 94.5% on the RPDD. The parameter size of the model is 1.4 M, and the FLOPs is 1.65 G. The results suggest that the LMN model performs rice disease and pest classification tasks more effectively than the baseline ResNet model by significantly reducing the model size and improving accuracy.

Masks cover most areas of the face, resulting in a serious loss of facial identity information; thus, how to alleviate or eliminate the negative impact of occlusion is a significant problem in the field of unconstrained face recognition. Inspired by the successful application of attention mechanisms and capsule networks in computer vision, we propose ECA-Inception-Resnet-Caps, which is a novel framework based on Inception-Resnet-v1 for learning discriminative face features in unconstrained mask-wearing conditions. Firstly, Squeeze-and-Excitation (SE) modules and Efficient Channel Attention (ECA) modules are applied to Inception-Resnet-v1 to increase the attention on unoccluded face areas, which is used to eliminate the negative impact of occlusion during feature extraction. Secondly, the effects of the two attention mechanisms on the different modules in Inception-Resnet-v1 are compared and analyzed, which is the foundation for further constructing the ECA-Inception-Resnet-Caps framework. Finally, ECA-Inception-Resnet-Caps is obtained by improving Inception-Resnet-v1 with capsule modules, which is explored to increase the interpretability and generalization of the model after reducing the negative impact of occlusion. The experimental results demonstrate that both attention mechanisms and the capsule network can effectively enhance the performance of Inception-Resnet-v1 for face recognition in occlusion tasks, with the ECA-Inception-Resnet-Caps model being the most effective, achieving an accuracy of 94.32%, which is 1.42% better than the baseline model.

Face recognition in general scenarios has been saturated in recent years, but there is still room to enhance model performance in extreme scenarios and fairness situations. Inspired by the successful application of Transformer and ConvNet in computer vision, we propose a FIN-Block, which gives a more flexible composition paradigm for building a novel pure convolution model and provides a foundation for constructing a new framework for general face recognition in both extreme scenarios and fairness situations. FIN-Block-A uses a combination of stacked large-size convolution kernels and parallel convolution branches to ensure a large spatial receptive field while improving the module’s deep feature embedding and extraction capabilities. FIN-Block-B takes advantage of stacked orthogonal convolution kernels and parallel branches to balance model size and performance. By applying FIN-Block with an adapted convolution kernel size in different stages, we built a reasonable and novel framework Face-Inception-Net, and the performance of the model is highly competitive with ConvNeXt and InceptionNeXt. The models were trained on CASIA-WebFace and MS-wo-RFW databases and evaluated on 14 mainstream benchmarks, including LFW, extreme scene, and fairness test sets. The proposed Face-Inception-Net achieved the highest average TAR@FAR0.001 of 95.9% in all used benchmarks, fully demonstrating effectiveness and generality in various scenarios.

The medical information carried in electronic medical records has high clinical research value, and medical named entity recognition is the key to extracting valuable information from large-scale medical texts. At present, most of the studies on Chinese medical named entity recognition are based on character vector model or word vector model. Owing to the complexity and specificity of Chinese text, the existing methods may fail to achieve good performance. In this study, we propose a Chinese medical named entity recognition method that fuses character and word vectors. The method expresses Chinese texts as character vectors and word vectors separately and fuses them in the model for features. The proposed model can effectively avoid the problems of missing character vector information and inaccurate word vector partitioning. On the CCKS 2019 dataset for the named entity recognition task of Chinese electronic medical records, the proposed model achieves good performance and can effectively improve the accuracy of Chinese medical named entity recognition compared with other baseline models.
