Prof. Dr. Rafel Prohens

I obtained a Chemistry degree at the Universitat de les Illes Balears and completed my PhD in Organic Chemistry working in the field of Molecular Recognition. In 2000, I joined the group of Prof. Chris Hunter at the University of Sheffield (UK) as a postdoctoral research associate and focused my research on the synthesis of molecular knots. In 2002, I moved to the University of Barcelona to work in Calorimetry and Thermal Risk Assessment, and since 2004, I have been the Head of the Polymorphism and Calorimetry Unit at the same university. I founded the biotech company CIRCE Crystal Engineering in 2013 and became its Scientific Director. I was a research visitor at the University of Sheffield in 2009 and from 2013 to 2015. My research interests include the study of intermolecular interactions by means of microcalorimetry, the polymorphism of organic compounds and pharmaceutical cocrystals. I have supervised four MSc theses and four PhD theses and published more than 90 research papers and patents.
