José Manuel Lozano obtained a Chemist degree in 1991, and Doctor in Chemistry in 2002. His research interests are developing novel antimicrobials and synthetic vaccines for human diseases.
He has completed complementary studies in Washington University, USA, was a researcher at the Immunology Institute Foundation (2001-2014), and a Scientific Director (2004-2008). He has held Postdoctoral positions in IBMC, Université Louis Pasteur, France (2002-2004), and the Swiss Tropical Institute in Basel.
From 2005 to present, he has been a full professor at the Universidad Nacional de Colombia, and from 2008 to 2011 a full Professor at the School of Medicine and Exact and Natural Sciences of the Universidad del Rosario in Bogotá. Currently, he is conducting a research project on SARS-CoV-2-based compounds for the diagnosis and prevention of COVID-19.
