Reconnaissance mission has a wide application in both civil and military fields, which provides intelligence and basis for the following decision-making to accomplish certain goals. Due to numerous advantages of UAV swarms such as strong flexibility, high efficiency, and low cost, conducting reconnaissance missions by UAV swarms has become a trend of future. However, the path planning problem of UAV swarms is a key challenge in the aspect of model construction, algorithm, selection and high computational complexity, especially when the mission is complicated. In this paper, various distributed particle swarm optimization (DPSO)-based path planning algorithms are proposed for UAV swarms conducting a reconnaissance mission, in which targets are gathered in the form of clusters and different tactic needs are taken into consideration. Three algorithms named the maximum density convergence DPSO algorithm (MDC-DPSO), the fast cross-over DPSO algorithm (FCO-DPSO), and the accurate coverage exploration DPSO algorithm (ACE-DPSO) are proposed correspond to the needs of fast convergence, random cross-over, and accurate search, respectively. Different fitness functions and search strategies are specifically designed considering the mobility and communication constraints of the UAV swarms. Besides, the jump-out mechanism and revisit mechanism are designed to save invalid search efforts and avoid falling into local optimum. The simulation results demonstrate that the proposed algorithms are effective in generating paths for UAV swarms conducting a reconnaissance mission, which can be easily applied to large scale swarms.
In this paper, the angle-of-arrival (AOA) measurements are adopted to locate a target using UAV swarms equipped with passive receivers. The measurement noise is considered to be target-to-receiver distance dependent. The Cramer-Rao low bound (CRLB) of AOA localization is calculated and the optimal deployments are explored through changing angular separations and distances, respectively. Then, a distributed collaborative autonomous generation (DCAG) method is proposed based on the deep neural network (NN). The off-line training and on-line application rules are applied to generate the optimal heading angles for UAV swarms in AOA localization. Simulation results show that through DCAG method, the generated heading angles for UAV swarms enhance the localization accuracy and stability.
In localization estimation systems, it is well known that the sensor-emitter geometry can seriously impact the accuracy of the location estimate. In this paper, time-difference-of-arrival (TDOA) localization is applied to locate the emitter using unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) swarms equipped with TDOA-based sensors. Different from existing studies where the variance of measurement noises is assumed to be independent and changeless, we consider a more realistic model where the variance is sensor-emitter distance-dependent. First, the measurements model and variance model based on signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) are considered. Then the Cramer–Rao low bound (CRLB) is calculated and the optimal configuration is analyzed via the distance rule and angle rule. The sensor management problem of optimizing UAVs trajectories is studied by generating a sequence of waypoints based on CRLB. Simulation results show that path optimization enhances the localization accuracy and stability.
Source localization based on the hybrid time-difference-of-arrival (TDOA) and frequency-difference-of-arrival (FDOA) measurements from distributed sensors is an essential problem in wireless sensor networks (WSNs). In this paper, we mainly study the optimal sensor deployment and velocity configuration of UAV swarms mounted with TDOA and FDOA based sensors. Explicit solutions of optimal sensor deployment and velocity configuration are acquired in both static and movable source scenarios based on the Fisher information matrix (FIM). Both centralized and decentralized localization are explored to meet different types of localization methods. Path planning problem of UAV swarms in TDOA/FDOA localization is also studied with constraints. Simulations verify its efficiency with path planning in TDOA and FDOA localization.
There are many problems in present anti-stealth detection technologies, such as small detection range and excessive detection blind zone. Besides, the stealth target is difficult to be detected and tracked with current technology. To solve these problems, this paper presents a novel anti-stealth method that is based on the thought of swarm and makes use of the more flexible airborne platform to generate and change formation configuration. First, the cooperative anti-stealth airspace coverage model of aircraft swarm is established, and an improved airspace coverage solution method is proposed. Second, four evaluation indexes and effective detection airspace are defined, meanwhile, the optimization objective function is obtained by using the weighted sum. Third, based on the study of the one transmitter and one receiver configuration, we optimize the 1TnR spatial configuration by using the rule-searching strategy and particle swarm optimization algorithm. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed model and the feasibility of the algorithm are verified by simulation examples.
