Cervical cancer remains a significant public health priority, particularly in low- and middle-income countries. In this context, liquid biopsy has emerged as a minimally invasive method for detecting and monitoring molecular biomarkers, offering advantages over traditional screening approaches. This systematic review included 21 studies published between 2015 and 2025 and was conducted in accordance with the PRISMA 2020 statement. The analysis examined the role of serum cytokines, circulating microRNAs (miRNAs), and circulating cell-free HPV DNA (cfHPV-DNA) in patients with cervical cancer or high-grade intraepithelial lesions. Circulating miRNAs—particularly miR-21, miR-29a, and miR-34a—are consistently associated with recurrence, tumor progression, and reduced survival. However, their immediate clinical translation remains limited by methodological variability and the lack of universal normalizers. In contrast, cfHPV-DNA, especially with ddPCR, exhibited the best study-level performance, with a specificity of 100% and a sensitivity of approximately 80–88%, across heterogeneous endpoints and analytic conditions. Consequently, cfHPV-DNA represents a promising tool for post-treatment surveillance and early detection of recurrence. Serum cytokines, such as TNF-α, IL-6, and IL-10, reflect inflammation and the tumor microenvironment. Nevertheless, their lack of standardization and variability across detection platforms restricts their reproducibility, positioning them as complementary rather than stand-alone markers. In conclusion, the evidence supports liquid biopsy as a promising tool in cervical cancer management; nonetheless, only cfHPV-DNA is currently ready for clinical application, whereas miRNAs and cytokines require multicenter validation and technical standardization before implementation.

Stenotrophomonas maltophilia is considered one of the emerging bacterial agents causing healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) in hospital environments. This microorganism has been identified as multidrug-resistant, capable of forming mature biofilms—an ability that promotes adherence to surfaces and invasive medical devices, favoring persistence in hospital environments and the potential to generate outbreaks. The aim of this study was to characterize S. maltophilia strains isolated from HAI cases at the Hospital Juárez de México and to determine the presence of hidden outbreaks. Antibiotic resistance profiles were determined, along with the typing of 20 genes associated with virulence factors and the assessment of the ability to form mature biofilms on inert surfaces. Finally, sequence type (ST) was obtained through multilocus sequence typing (MLST) analysis, and a phylogenetic tree was constructed to determine the clonal diversity of the isolates. All strains showed uniform resistance to β-lactam antibiotics tested while remaining sensitive to fluoroquinolones, phenicols, tetracyclines, and trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole. Some isolates exhibited adherent activity, with the “strong biofilm-former” phenotype predominating. Sixteen virulence-related genes were heterogeneously detected, revealing broad genetic diversity. MLST analysis grouped the isolates into nine ST related to infection cases reported in others countries. Phylogenetic analyses demonstrated the presence of three potential clones distributed across Internal Medicine and the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. These results highlight the importance of investigating S. maltophilia as an HAI-associated pathogen that remains understudied.

B-lineage acute lymphoblastic leukemia (B-ALL) is classified into more than 20 molecular subtypes, and next-generation sequencing has facilitated the identification of these with high sensitivity. Bulk RNA-seq analysis of bone marrow was realized to identify molecular subtypes in Mexican pediatric patients with B-ALL. High hyperdiploidy (27.3%) was the most frequent molecular subtype, followed by DUX4 (13.6%), TCF3::PBX1 (9.1%), ETV6::RUNX1 (9.1%), Ph-like (9.1%), ETV6::RUNX1-like (9.1%), PAX5alt (4.5%), Ph (4.5%), KMT2A (4.5%), and ZNF384 (4.5%), with one patient presenting both the PAX5alt and low hypodiploidy subtypes (4.5%). The genes TYK2, SEMA6A, FLT3, NRAS, SETD2, JAK2, NT5C2, RAG1, and SPATS2L harbor deleterious missense variants across different B-ALL molecular subtypes. The Ph-like subtype exhibited mutations in STAT2, ADGRF1, TCF3, BCR, JAK2, and NRAS with overexpression of the CRLF2 gene. The DUX4 subtype showed mutually exclusive missense variants in the PDGRFA gene. Here, we have demonstrated the importance of using RNA-seq to facilitate the differential diagnosis of B-ALL with successful detection of gene fusions and mutations. This will aid both patient risk stratification and precision medicine.
