Eva Martins holds a Ph.D. in Marine Sciences (University of Azores, 2015, Praise and Distinction), with doctoral research focused on immune responses of the deep-sea mussel Bathymodiolus azoricus. Since 2016, her research has evolved towards marine biotechnology and biomaterials, particularly the extraction, characterisation, and biomedical application of marine-derived collagen and extracellular matrix components, within projects including the EU Horizon 2020 project SponGES (University of Minho, 3B's Research Group). At CBQF (Universidade Católica Portuguesa, 2022–2023), she developed cosmetic products using Amyris yeast-derived biomolecules and contributed to an analytical platform for the characterisation of commercial hair repair treatments (K18, Olaplex). She is currently a Contracted Researcher at BIORBIS Biotechnology, applying her expertise in protein extraction, purification and downstream processing to the valorisation of by-products from the sugarcane processing, brewing and other agro-industrial sectors, in partnership with national and international companies. She is the author of 23 peer-reviewed articles and 2 book chapters, Guest Editor for Applied Sciences and Journal of Fundamental and Applied Sciences, and active reviewer for Marine Drugs, Frontiers in Marine Science, and Marine Ecology, among others. She has also served as Expert Evaluator for the EEA Grants Blue Growth Programme.
