Emilia Margarita is a bionic engineer from the Popular Autonomous University of the State of Puebla (UPAEP) and has a master’s and a Ph.D. in optical sciences from the National Institute for Astrophysics, Optics and Electronics (INAOE) of Mexico. She is a young researcher who has already participated in research including topics such as laser speckle imaging, light scattering in the human eye, and optical instrumentation for Raman microscopes. She has also worked in the non-government sector developing optical equipment for the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) technique. She participated in the optical transillumination spectroscopy project developed at the Princess Margaret Hospital of Canada inside the calibration team of the optical prototype to identify women with elevated breast cancer risk. She has published articles in journals such as Biomedical Optics, Biophotonics, and Proceedings in Springer and adds more than 30 citations. Currently, she is working on research and development of didactic material for science education at the Wexford College of Mexico and collaborates with her expertise in the analysis of microfluidic prototypes using optical detection techniques.
