There is a growing interest in bidirectional dc-dc converters for interface battery with energy source and load. This paper provides a comprehensive review of non-isolated bidirectional dc-dc converter topologies. The classification and description of each type presented is based on the features and applications. This review paper is intended as a convenient reference to future non-isolated converter users. The most promising converters in terms of their simplicity, flexibility, and high efficiency are singled out.
The most important component of a closed-loop industrial control system is the communication unit located between a digital controller and the object being controlled. A pulse converter is usually used for this purpose in systems operating under pulse width modulation. However the dynamic characteristics of the converter bring a significant impact on the quality of the system regulation. This article discusses the design and implementation a closed-loop digital automatic control system for a zero-current switching quasi-resonant boost converter. It enables a high-speed transient process of the controlled object voltage having the advantages provided by pulse methods of electrical energy conversion. This paper also presents the simulation and experimental verification of the proposed approach.
The photovoltaic (PV) systems are of great interest nowadays due to the depletion of fossil sources and its environmental impact (greenhouse gas emissions, air pollutions and effects of accidents at nuclear power plants). The maximum power point tracking (MPPT) systems and solar trackers allow significantly efficiency increase of PV systems. This article presents the efficiency calculations for 2-axial active solar tracker taking into account losses on panel orientation for the three most specific months - December, June and September. An algorithm for tracker control is proposed and tested on the developed experimental prototype. It was established, that the optimal PV panel orientation change time interval is 15 minutes.
DC microgrids, along with existing AC grids, are a future trend in energy distribution systems. At the same time, many related issues are still undefined and unsolved. In particular, uncertainty prevails in isolation requirements between AC grids and novel microgrids as well as in the grounding approaches. This paper presents a critical technical analysis and an overview of possible grounding approaches in DC systems and the feasibility of avoiding isolation between AC and DC grids.
This paper presents a novel bidirectional current-fed dual inductor push-pull DC-DC converter with galvanic isolation. The converter features active voltage doubler rectifier, which is controlled by the switching sequence synchronous to that of the input-side switches. The control algorithm proposed enables full-soft-switching of all switches in a wide range of the input voltage and power without requirement of snubbers or resonant switching to be employed. Operation principle for the energy transfer in the both directions is described. Experimental results as well as basic design guidelines are presented.

Electric energy consumption is increasing much faster than the predicted growth in energy generation. Although the installed capacity of renewable energy sources is also expanding, grid congestion remains unavoidable without adopting smart energy management systems (EMS) and flexible power electronics structures. Given the significant installed capacity of photovoltaic (PV) systems in the residential sector, moving towards zero-emission buildings (ZEBs) through the use of storage systems and smart power electronics is essential. This article provides a detailed review of power electronics solutions for ZEBs and offers strategies to address related challenges. By exploring the promising future of the low-voltage dc (LVDC) industry in ZEBs, it presents and compares grid connection scenarios and evaluates their overall efficiencies across hybrid, dc, and ac technologies. Furthermore, it addresses the integration of dc and ac systems in energy resources (ER), proposing solutions for challenges related to protection, grounding, and leakage currents. Finally, it examines the latest EMS solutions, emphasizing the shift to full digitalization through a combination of cloud-based and edge-computing platforms.
