His main research interests include nonlinear optics exhibited by nanostructures, thin films and biological systems. Most of his publications involve the ultrafast optical Kerr effect; laser ablation; and nonlinear optical absorption of metallic nanoparticles nucleated by ion implantation, grown by sol–gel methods, or prepared by spray pyrolysis processing routes. His research on 2D materials was awarded at the 2013 MRS Spring Congress in San Francisco, California, U.S.A. He is currently a full professor and responsible for the laboratory of vectorial optical instrumentation at the Insituto Politécnico Nacional Mexico. He was awarded as the best reviewer in 2015 by the Journal of Optics and Laser Technology, Elsevier. Since 2016, he has also been awarded as an outstanding reviewer in different prestigious journals, like the Journal of Physics: Applied Physics, Molecular Liquids, Sensors & Actuators B, Materials Science and Semiconductor Processing, Materials Chemistry and Physics, Applied Surface Science and Optical Materials, Physical Chemistry Chemical Physics, RSC Advances, Physica Scripta, Methods and Applications in Fluorescence, Nanotechnology, Biosensors and Photonics. He has published more than 100 scientific papers, with about 2000 citations.
