Background: The outbreak of COVID-19 has profoundly influenced people’s lifestyles; these impacts have varied across subgroups of people. The pandemic-related impacts on the health outcomes of people with dermatological conditions are unknown. Objective: The aim of this paper was to study the association of COVID-19 pandemic–related impacts with health-related quality of life in patients with skin diseases. Methods: This was a cross-sectional study among Chinese patients with skin diseases. A self-administered web-based questionnaire was distributed through social media. Demographic and clinical data and pandemic-related impacts (isolation status, income changes, and employment status) were collected. The main outcomes included perceived stress (Visual Analog Scale), symptoms of anxiety (Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7) and depression (9-Item Patient Health Questionnaire), quality of life (Dermatology Life Quality Index), and health utility mapping based on the EQ-5D-3L descriptive system. Multivariable logistic regression was used to investigate the associations. Results: A total of 506 patients with skin diseases completed the survey. The mean age of the patients was 33.5 years (SD 14.0), and 217/506 patients (42.9%) were male. Among the 506 respondents, 128 (25.3%) were quarantined, 102 (20.2%) reported unemployment, and 317 (62.6%) reported decrease or loss of income since the pandemic. The pandemic-related impacts were significantly associated with impaired mental well-being and quality of life with different effects. Unemployment and complete loss of income were associated with the highest risks of adverse outcomes, with increases of 110% to 162% in the prevalence of anxiety, depression, and impaired quality of life. Conclusions: Isolation, income loss, and unemployment are associated with impaired health-related quality of life in patients with skin diseases during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Gold nanocages (AuNCs) are hollow, porous plasmonic nanostructures featuring an internal cavity for cargo accommodation, a gold-rich surface amenable to functionalization, and tunable near-infrared (NIR) optical properties, enabling controlled delivery, photothermal activation, and imaging within a single platform. As AuNC research has evolved from galvanic-replacement synthesis and photothermal ablation toward stimuli-responsive and multifunctional systems, the central challenge has shifted from simply adding functions to achieving reproducible control of therapeutic exposure in space, time, and dose through coordinated structural and formulation engineering. This review examines the relationships among nanocage architecture, interfacial modification, cargo loading and retention, stimuli-responsive release, biological transport, therapeutic applications, and theranostic strategies ranging from imaging-enabled monitoring to imaging-guided intervention. Particular emphasis is placed on how particle size, wall thickness, porosity, cavity architecture, residual Au–Ag composition, surface state, and localized surface plasmon resonance influence loading capacity, release kinetics, optical energy deposition, cellular uptake, biodistribution, and biological fate. We further discuss how PEGylation, targeting ligands, responsive polymers, nucleic-acid gates, lipid layers, biomimetic coatings, and endogenous or exogenous stimuli can transform AuNCs from passive carriers into programmable delivery platforms. Across cancer, infection, inflammation, regeneration, and cardiovascular applications, precision delivery depends on coordinated control of localization, payload release, therapeutic exposure, and imaging-informed treatment decisions. Despite substantial progress, clinical translation remains constrained by challenges including reproducibility, residual silver, compositional heterogeneity, formulation stability, long-term gold retention, limited optical penetration, incomplete understanding of carrier and cargo fate, sterilization, manufacturing complexity, and scale-up. Future studies should prioritize quantitative structure–property–delivery relationships, formulation-level critical quality attributes, clinically relevant trigger thresholds and exposure ranges, and imaging-feedback workflows that demonstrate reproducible advantages over simpler delivery systems.

Oral diseases, encompassing conditions such as periodontitis, head and neck squamous cell carcinoma, pulpitis, and mucosal infections, remain a major global health burden due to their high prevalence and complex, multifactorial pathophysiology. The unique anatomical structure of the oral cavity, together with persistent microbial challenges and dynamic immune responses, imposes substantial limitations on conventional drug delivery strategies. Biomimetic cell membrane-based materials have recently emerged as a promising class of delivery platforms, leveraging natural biological interfaces to confer inherent biocompatibility, immune evasion, prolonged circulation, specific targeting, and biofilm-interactive capabilities. These features position them as a transformative approach for improving therapeutic precision and efficacy in oral disease management. In this review, we provide a systematic and materials-oriented overview of biomimetic cell membrane-based drug delivery systems. Specifically, we discuss: (1) the biological sources, classification, and physicochemical properties of membrane-coated systems, along with their fabrication and engineering strategies; (2) the mechanistic basis of targeting, immune modulation, and nanobiointerface interactions, and their applications across representative oral diseases; and (3) current challenges, including scalable manufacturing, functional controllability, biosafety, and clinical translation. Furthermore, we highlight emerging directions such as stimuli-responsive membrane systems and multifunctional integrated platforms, aiming to provide a conceptual framework for the rational design and clinical advancement of biomimetic drug delivery systems in complex disease settings.
