Paper currency recognition (PCR) is an important area of pattern recognition. A system for the recognition of paper currency is one kind of intelligent system which is a very important need of the current automation systems in the modern world of today. It has various potential applications including electronic banking, currency monitoring systems, money exchange machines, etc. This paper proposes an automatic paper currency recognition system for paper currency. A method of recognizing paper currencies has been introduced. This is based on interesting features and correlation between images. It uses Radial Basis Function Network for classification. The method uses the case of Saudi Arabian paper currency as a model. The method is quite reasonable in terms of accuracy. The system deals with 110 images, 10 of which are tilted with an angle less than 15o. The rest of the currency images consist of mixed including noisy and normal images 50 each. It uses fourth series (1984–2007) of currency issued by Saudi Arabian Monetary Agency (SAMA) as a model currency under consideration. The system produces accuracy of recognition as 95.37%, 91.65%, and 87.5%, for the Normal Non-Tilted Images, Noisy Non-Tilted Images, and Tilted Images respectively. The overall Average Recognition Rate for the data of 110 images is computed as 91.51%. The proposed algorithm is fully automatic and requires no human intervention. The proposed technique produces quite satisfactory results in terms of recognition and efficiency.

This work is a contribution towards the graphical display of 2D data when they are convex, monotone and positive. A piecewise rational function in a cubic/cubic form is proposed, which, in each interval, involves four free parameters in its construction. These four free parameters have a direct geometric interpretation, making their use straightforward. Illustrations of their effect on the shape of the rational function are given. Two of these free parameters are constrained to preserve the shape of convex, monotone and positive data, while the other two parameters are utilized for the modification of positive, monotone and convex curves to obtain a visually pleasing curve. The problem of shape preservation of data lying above a line is also discussed. The method that is presented applies equally well to data or data with derivatives. The developed scheme is computationally economical and pleasing. The error of rational interpolating function is also derived when the arbitrary function being interpolated is C 3 in an interpolating interval. The order of approximation is .

This study deals with the application of new rational bi-cubic Ball function with six parameters in image interpolation, especially for the grayscale image. These six free parameters can be modified to get better and quality image resolution, and refine the shape of the interpolating surface. This bivariate rational Ball function has been extended from univariate cases by using a tensor product approach. The proposed scheme is tested for image upscaling with factors of two and four through an efficient algorithm. The effectiveness of the proposed scheme is measured by using an image quality assessment (IQA), such as peak-signal-to-noise-ratio (PSNR), root mean square error (RMSE) or feature similarity (FSIM) index. Numerical and graphical results with comparisons against some existing scheme are presented by using MATLAB. The proposed scheme resulted in higher PSNR and FSIM, and smaller RMSE. Thus, the new rational bi-cubic Ball with six parameters is better than the existing scheme via an efficient algorithm.

Splines play an important role in approximation theory as well as in computer-aided design and geometric modelling. Specifically, designing of objects is a fundamental problem that is mainly being attempted to be resolved using splines. Many authors have worked in the area and various techniques exist in the current literature. B-splines and non-uniform B-splines (NURBS) are quite popular in literature. However, there also exist some other splines to compete. The paper is devoted towards a new spline method that is a generalization of the Ball's cubic spline method on one hand, and also serves as an effective alternate to the NURBS of degree three on the other hand. Together with a class of shape parameters in its description, it introduces a class of cubic polynomial blending functions. These blending functions play a role of basis functions that ultimately describe the newly proposed spline method. Piecewise polynomial curves with a family of shape parameters are constructed from these blending functions. The generated curves have a second-order geometric continuity similar to those of weighted Nu-splines. The proposed method also provides a strong alternate to the NURBS of degree three as far as shape control is concerned. If the values of the shape parameters are changed, the approaching degree of the curves to their control polygon is adjusted accordingly and the curves are manipulated to approximate the cubic B-spline curve from its both sides. In comparison with the existing techniques, the degree of the spline method is ideally three and the domain of the shape parameters is broader than those in NURBS. The scheme has been implemented practically to demonstrate its effectiveness. This curve design method, in addition to enjoying the good features of Ball's cubic splines, possesses interesting shape design features too. The proposed spline method possesses two families of shape parameters. One family of parameters is associated with intervals and the other with points to have variety of shape control.

This article presents a robust stabilizing control for nonholonomic underwater systems that are affected by uncertainties. The methodology is based on adaptive integral sliding mode control. Firstly, the original underwater system is transformed in a way that the new system has uncertainties in matched form. A change of coordinates is carried out for this purpose, and the nonholonomic system is transformed into chained form system with matched uncertainties. Secondly, the chained form system with uncertainties is transformed into a special structure containing nominal part and some unknown terms through input transformation. The unknown terms are computed adaptively. Afterward, the transformed system is stabilized using integral sliding mode control. The stabilizing controller for the transformed system is constructed which consists of the nominal control plus some compensator control. The compensator controller and the adaptive laws are derived in a way that the derivative of a suitable Lyapunov function becomes strictly negative. Two different cases of perturbation are considered including the bounded uncertainty present in any single control input and the uncertainties present in the overall system model of the underwater vehicle. Finally, simulation results show the validity and correctness of the proposed controllers for both cases of nonholonomic underwater system affected by uncertainties.

In this paper, the problem of shape preserving C2 rational cubic spline has been proposed. The shapes of the positive and convex data are under discussion of the proposed spline solutions. A C2 rational cubic function with two families of free parameters has been introduced to attain the C2 positive curves from positive data and C2 convex curves from convex data. Simple data dependent constraints are derived on free parameters in the description of rational cubic function to obtain the desired shape of the data. The rational cubic schemes have unique representations
