The paper presents a comparison between two different orientations of a vegetable greenhouse with respect to East-West axis in Romania. The solar irradiance received by the greenhouse is estimated based on isotropic clear sky analysis model. Interior air temperature profiles are numerically simulated all along a day, in winter and in summer. In order to maintain a constant interior air temperature during vegetation, heating and respectively cooling required loads are computed. Different profiles are obtained for the considered orientations. Based on these profiles, the numerical simulation reveal energy savings for the E-W orientation with respect to N-S one, both in summer and winter periods. The results might be used for designing the cooling and heating equipment ensuring the optimum microclimate inside the greenhouse

A simple effect one stage ammonia-water absorption cooling system fueled by solar energy is analyzed. The considered system is composed by a parabolic trough collector concentrating solar energy into a tubular receiver for heating water. This is stored in a fully mixed thermal storage tank and used in the vapor generator of the absorption cooling system. Time dependent cooling load is considered for the air conditioning of a residential two-storey house. A parametric study is performed to analyze the operation stability of the cooling system with respect to solar collector and storage tank dimensions. The results emphasized that there is a specific storage tank dimension associated to a specific solar collector dimension that could ensure the longest continuous startup operation of the cooling system when constant mass flow rates inside the system are assumed.

Entropy generation of 3D cross sections circular, square, and hexagon shapes microchannel heat sinks (MCHS) were numerically performed. The governing equations (continuity, momentum and energy) along with the boundary conditions and the study state conjugate heat transfer problem were solved using the finite volume method (FVM). The Reynolds number in the range of 100 to 1600 and heat flux of 125, 150, 175 and 200 kW/m2 were covered in this study. The overall entropy generation rate and entropy generation number are obtained by integrating the volumetric rate components over the entire heat sink. The results indicated that entropy generation decreases with increases of the Reynolds number. Decreasing the heat flux led to decreasing entropy generation. The square microchannel heat sink has the lowest entropy generation and entropy generation number

The paper presents the thermal behavior and energy loads of a two-level residential building designed for a family of four, two adults and two students, for different inside comfort levels reflected by the interior air temperature. Results are intended to emphasize the different thermal behavior of building elements and their contribution to the building's external load. The most important contributors to the building thermal loss are determined. Daily heating and cooling loads are computed for 12 months simulation in Bucharest (44.25ºN latitude) in clear sky conditions. The most important aspects regarding sizing of thermal energy systems are emphasized, such as the reference months for maximum cooling and heating loads and these loads' values. Annual maximum loads are encountered in February and August, respectively, so these months should be taken as reference for sizing thermal building systems, in Bucharest, under clear sky conditions.
