Rosin is a characteristic natural renewable resource. In view of the unique hydrogenated phenanthrene ring skeleton structure of rosin, it can be designed and synthesized to modify silicone rubber for improving its mechanical properties, thermal stability, and other properties. In this paper, the research progress of silicone rubber modified by rosin and its derivatives is reviewed, including internal or surface modification of room temperature or high temperature vulcanized silicone rubber. The different chemical modifications and polymerization pathways to obtain bio-based silicone rubber (e.g. rosin-based silicone cross-linking agent, filler compound rosin-based silicone cross-linking agent, rosin-based polymer, and rosin quaternary ammonium salt bifunctional antibacterial coating) are discussed and its research prospect is reviewed. Overall, the present review article will provide a quantitative experimental basis for rosin to produce bio-renewable multifunctional silicone rubber to increase our level of understanding of the behavior of this important class of silicone rubber and other similar bio-based polymers.
In order to investigate the pollution situation and sources analysis of heavy metals in bamboo shoot soil in Guangdong Province, a total of 175 soil samples were collected at 46 sites. Atomic fluorescence spectrophotometer and inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry were used to determine the content of five heavy metals: lead (Pb), cadmium (Cd), arsenic (As), mercury (Hg), and chromium (Cr). In addition, the soil environmental quality was evaluated through different index methods, including single-factor pollution, Nemeiro comprehensive pollution, geoaccumulation, and potential ecological risk. Furthermore, the correlation coefficients were also discussed. The results showed that the soils collected were acidic or slight alkaline. The maximum content of Pb and As from some areas exceeded the standard limit value. The coefficient of variation value from six areas exceeded 100%. The index method mentioned above confirmed that the soil within study areas was divided into three pollution levels: no, slightly, and mild. Additionally, there was a very significant correlation between pH and Pb, Hg; the correlation between heavy metal As and Pb, Cr also reached a very significant level. The principal component analysis results show that PC1 accounts for 39.60% of the total variance, which includes Pb, Cd, and As. PC2 mainly includes Hg and Cr.
This study evaluated the effects of soil nutrients and variety on the nutrient composition of representative bamboo shoots from different locations in Guangdong, China. Results indicated that the different representative bamboo shoots collected were rich in nutrient composition: protein (18.94–32.08 mg/g fw), fat (0.64–4.40 mg/g fw), essential amino acids (459.9–1288 mg/100 g fw), and total amino acids (1268–2652 mg/100 g fw). Significant differences in total polyphenols, polysaccharides, protein, fat, amino acids, and minerals were observed across sampling locations and varieties. According to the different methods of categorizing bamboo shoots, in terms of sampling location (Hengshan Town, Changjiang Town, and Zhouzi Town) and variety (Pleioblastus amarus shoot and Phyllostachys edulis shoot), these bamboo shoots exhibit more prominent nutritional composition. Multivariate analysis revealed group separation of samples across the different sites, regions, and varieties where samples were submitted. Soil and bamboo shoot composition showed distinct patterns among sampling sites and varieties, and total nitrogen, total potassium, and organic matter played a key role in determining their nutrient profiles. These findings assist in selecting suitable soil to improve the cultivation and management of nutrient-rich bamboo shoots, as well as in developing nutritional and quality standards for Chinese bamboo shoots.
Natural polymers (NPs) are widely distributed in plants, animals, and microorganisms. They can be classified into three habitat-based groups, namely terrestrial polymers, marine polymers, and extreme natural polymers. This review summarizes their structural features, environmental adaptation mechanisms, and functional attributes. It also outlines the evolution of extraction technologies from traditional acid–alkali and mechanical methods to modern green solvent systems. The roles of physical modification and chemical derivatization in performance regulation and functional enhancement are examined. Artificial intelligence methods are introduced to support structure–property prediction, formulation design, and process optimization. Molecular dynamics and other computational approaches are also discussed to clarify the underlying mechanisms. Overall, as key materials supporting the green transition of industrial production, NPs are becoming a major focus in research on circular chemical resources. With continued advances in process optimization, artificial intelligence technologies and interdisciplinary integration, NPs are expected to replace conventional materials in a wider range of high-value applications scenarios and to achieve further breakthroughs in performance, thereby contributing to sustainable development.
