Gerontechnology has great potential in promoting older adults’ well-being. With the accelerated aging process, gerontechnology has a promising market prospect. However, most technological developers and healthcare professionals attached importance to products’ effectiveness, and ignored older adults’ demands and user experience, which reduced older adults' adoption intention of gerontechnology use. The inclusion of older adults in the design process of technologies is essential to maximize the effect. This study explored older adults’ demands for a self-developed intelligent medication administration system and proposed optimization schemes, thus providing reference to developing geriatric-friendly technologies and products. A cross-sectional survey was conducted to explore older adults’ technological demands for the self-developed intelligent medication administration system, and data were analyzed based on the Kano model. A self-made questionnaire was administered from July 2020 to October 2020 after participants used this system for two weeks. The study was registered with the Chinese Clinical Trial Registry (ChiCTR2000040644). A total of 354 older adults participated in the survey. Four items, namely larger font size, simpler operation process, scheduled medication reminders and reliable hardware, were classified as must-be attributes; three items, namely searching drug instructions through WeChat, more sensitive system and longer battery life, as attractive attributes; one item, viewing disease-related information through WeChat, as the one-dimensional attribute; and the rest were indifferent attributes, including simple and beautiful displays, blocking advertisements automatically, providing user privacy protection protocol, viewing personal medical information only by logged-in users, recording all the medications, ordering medications through WeChat. The satisfaction values were between 0.24 and 0.69, and dissatisfaction values were between 0.06 and 0.94. This study suggested that older adults had personalized technology demands. Including their technological demands and desire may assist in decreasing the digital divide and promoting the satisfaction of e-health and/or m-health. Based on older adults’ demands, our study proposed optimization schemes of the intelligent medication administration system, which may help developers design geriatric-friendly intelligent products and nurses to perform older adults-centered and efficient medication management.

Objectives: We conducted academic research utilizing the visualization tool CiteSpace to explore the direct relationship between digital twin technology and medical care. Methods: We collected data from the Web Of Science Core Collection, PubMed ScienceDirect, SpringerLink, and Wiley Online Library databases from 2010 to 2023, displayed visualization analysis of countries, institutions, and co-occurring keywords, clusters, citation bursts, and timelines, also calculated nodes, edges, centrality, modularity, and silhouette through CiteSpace 5.75r version. Results: The data incorporated 1109 studies, graphed the yearly publication number from 2010 to 2023, and showed a steady increase trend. The tree map displayed the top 10 prominent study subjects; the first one was “Health Care Science Service.” The top 3 countries were the United States, Germany, and England, and the top one institution was Harvard Medical School. The top 5 keywords were “digital health,” “care,” “technology,” “digital twin,” and “telemedicine.” The rank 3 clusters were “Digital Health Applications,” “Digital Twin,” and “Machine Learning.” We also displayed the visualization analysis of citation bursts and timelines. Conclusions: Digital twins have welcomed a popular development in strong countries and top-tier institutions and have a tight connection with mobile health and artificial intelligence. It has been widely used in clinical trials, like surgical operation and rehabilitation discipline, to predict patient treatment outcomes, and estimate potential complications; we should facilitate digital twins in clinical practice conversion and application and try to tackle the problems from privacy concerns and economic challenges.

Objective: To identify the root causes of typical adverse drug events through the lens of patient experiences proposing novel strategies to mitigate preventable harm. Methods: A qualitative case study leveraging in-depth interviews with patients and families, anchored by Interactive Patient Participation Theory, to analyze 4 high-severity adverse drug events (ADE) cases.Cases were purposively sampled from 8 communities in China’s National Adverse Event Monitor Center (2018–2023). Semi-structured interviews explored patient perspectives, with data analyzed via thematic coding and triangulation against clinical records. Results: Five interconnected themes emerged: (1) erosion of trust, (2) communication breakdowns, (3) information asymmetry, (4) environmental inadequacies, and (5) technological alienation. Notably, 75% of participants had ≤high school education, and 50% used ≥7 medications daily, compounding ADE risks. Conclusions: We considered elements mentioned by theory, exploring trust, communication, information, and support as the root causes. In addition, we added “adaptability to new technology” as an important and necessary component. It is important and necessary to analyze typical adverse drug events from the perspectives of patients.
