Jose VillarAlberto CamposThis paper proposes a methodology for determining the optimal bidding strategy of a retailer who supplies electricity to end-users in the short-term electricity market. The aim is to minimize the cost of purchasing energy in the sequence of trading opportunities that provide the day-ahead and intraday markets. A genetic algorithm has been designed to optimize the parameters that define the best purchasing strategy. The proposed methodology has been tested using real data from the Spanish day-ahead and intraday markets over a period of two years with a significant cost reduction with respect to trading solely in the day-ahead market.

About Me
José Villar received a degree in Electronic Engineering in 1991 and his PhD in 1997 from the Comillas Pontifical University, Madrid. From 1997 to 2017, he was a researcher at the Institute for Research in Technology and Deputy Director of the Institute from 2004 to 2016, Comillas Pontifical University. He was a Professor at the Electronic and Communications Department and also a member of the Doctorate Academic Commission from 2013 to 2017. He is currently a Senior Researcher at INESC TEC (Porto). His areas of interest include the operation and strategic planning of power systems, electric vehicles, renewable generation, distributed generation and smart grids and cities, soft computing, and data mining.
