Information

Over the last 30 years, I was able to perform studies on the main medically important arboviruses impacting human health, while affiliated to a Regional Reference Laboratory (Oswaldo Cruz Foundation/FIOCRUZ, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) and National Reference Laboratory for Arboviruses (Pará, Brazil). Currently, as a Public Health Senior Technologist at the Virus-Host Interactions Laboratory, FIOCRUZ with a One Health perspective, I’m committed on developing transdisciplinary research for the investigation of circulating and potentially emerging arboviruses at the animal- human interface that may impact the public health due to outbreaks and epidemics. My primary research activities are related to arboviruses’ surveillance based on laboratorial diagnosis, clinical, immunology, epidemiology, molecular epidemiology and vector-host interactions studies, particularly on Dengue, Zika, Yellow fever, Chikungunya, Mayaro and Oropouche viruses, as PI or co-investigator on several funded grants. My transdisciplinary collaborations have expanded not only for the arboviruses’ surveillance and diagnostics, but for pathogenesis, use of mouse models, vector-arbovirus surveillance and interactions, encompassing host-animal-vector triad studies, crucial for understanding the transmission dynamics of the diseases.
