Husam M. Younes is a pharmacist by training and obtained his Ph.D. from the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, in 2003. Before starting his Ph.D. and after finishing his MSc in pharmaceutical technology, he worked as a technical manager in the pharmaceutical industry. In January 2003, he was appointed as an assistant professor at the School of Pharmacy, Memorial University of Newfoundland, St. John’s, Canada. He worked as a senior consultant to the Newfoundland Health Department in Canada. He also served on the Panel of Examiners of the Pharmacy Examining Board of Canada from 2003 to 2007. In August 2007, he moved to Qatar to start his new career as the Founding Head of the Pharmaceutical Sciences Section in the new Canadian Accredited Pharmacy Program at Qatar University. In 2011 he was awarded the prestigious Qatar University Merit Award for Outstanding Faculty Member. In 2016, he served as the founding Director of Research Planning & Development at the office of Vice President For Research & Graduate Studies (VPRGS) and led the development of QU Transformational Research Strategy 2018–2022. Since 2018, besides his research work, he has been acting as an advisor to the VPRGS. His primary research interests are nanopharmaceuticals, biomaterials, tissue engineering, and targeted delivery of therapeutic proteins in cancer therapy.
