Lei Cheng is a professor at the West China School of Stomatology at Sichuan University. Dr. Cheng received his Ph.D. in stomatology at Sichuan University supervised by Prof. Xuedong Zhou (2010) and worked as a postdoc in Prof. Hockin H K Xu's lab at the University of Maryland (USA) from 2010 to 2012. He has twice received the Williams J. Gies Award, the International Association for Dental Research (IADR)'s highest award, and has been selected as a Highly Cited Chinese Researcher by Elsevier for 8 consecutive years. His lab revealed that oral bacteria transit the digestive tract and impact the composition of intestinal microbes and conducted investigations on the association between oral microbes and chronic diseases such caries, oral squamous cell carcinoma, and osteoarthritis. His current research involves interactions between oral microorganisms and H. pylori and the prevention and treatment of human chronic diseases.
