Investigating public attitudes on social media is important in opinion mining systems. Stance detection aims to analyze the attitude of an opinionated text (e.g., favor, neutral, or against) toward a given target. Existing methods mainly address this problem from the perspective of fine-tuning. Recently, prompt-tuning has achieved success in natural language processing tasks. However, conducting prompt-tuning methods for stance detection in real-world remains a challenge for several reasons: (1) The text form of stance detection is usually short and informal, which makes it difficult to design label words for the verbalizer. (2) The tweet text may not explicitly give the attitude. Instead, users may use various hashtags or background knowledge to express stance-aware perspectives. In this article, we first propose a prompt-tuning-based framework that performs stance detection in a cloze question manner. Specifically, a knowledge-enhanced prompt-tuning framework (KEprompt) method is designed, which consists of an automatic verbalizer (AutoV) and background knowledge injection (BKI). Specifically, in AutoV, we introduce a semantic graph to build a better mapping from the predicted word of the pretrained language model and detection labels. In BKI, we first propose a topic model for learning hashtag representation and introduce ConceptGraph as the supplement of the target. At last, we present a challenging dataset for stance detection, where all stance categories are expressed in an implicit manner. Extensive experiments on a large real-world dataset demonstrate the superiority of KEprompt over state-of-the-art methods.

Investigating public attitudes towards social media is crucial for opinion mining systems to gain valuable insights. Stance detection, which aims to discern the attitude expressed in an opinionated text towards a specific target, is a fundamental task in opinion mining. Conventional approaches mainly focus on sentence-level classification techniques. Recent research has shown that the integration of background knowledge can significantly improve stance detection performance. Despite the significant improvement achieved by knowledge-enhanced methods, applying these techniques in real-world scenarios remains challenging for several reasons. Firstly, existing methods often require the use of complex attention mechanisms to filter out noise and extract relevant background knowledge, which involves significant annotation efforts. Secondly, knowledge fusion mechanisms typically rely on fine-tuning, which can introduce a gap between the pre-training phase of pre-trained language models (PLMs) and the downstream stance detection tasks, leading to the poor prediction accuracy of the PLMs. To address these limitations, we propose a novel prompt-based stance detection method that leverages the knowledge acquired using the chain-of-thought method, which we refer to as PSDCOT. The proposed approach consists of two stages. The first stage is knowledge extraction, where instruction questions are constructed to elicit background knowledge from a VLPLM. The second stage is the multi-prompt learning network (M-PLN) for knowledge fusion, which learns model performance based on the background knowledge and the prompt learning framework. We evaluated the performance of PSDCOT on publicly available benchmark datasets to assess its effectiveness in improving stance detection performance. The results demonstrate that the proposed method achieves state-of-the-art results in in-domain, cross-target, and zero-shot learning settings.

Stance detection, which aims to identify public opinion towards specific targets using social media data, is an important yet challenging task. With the proliferation of diverse multimodal social media content including text, and images multimodal stance detection (MSD) has become a crucial research area. However, existing MSD studies have focused on modeling stance within individual text-image pairs, overlooking the multi-party conversational contexts that naturally occur on social media. This limitation stems from a lack of datasets that authentically capture such conversational scenarios, hindering progress in conversational MSD. To address this, we introduce a new multimodal multi-turn conversational stance detection dataset (called MmMtCSD). To derive stances from this challenging dataset, we propose a novel multimodal large language model stance detection framework (MLLM-SD), that learns joint stance representations from textual and visual modalities. Experiments on MmMtCSD show state-of-the-art performance of our proposed MLLM-SD approach for multimodal stance detection. We believe that MmMtCSD will contribute to advancing real-world applications of stance detection research.

Investigating public attitudes on social media is crucial for opinion mining systems. Stance detection aims to predict the attitude towards a specific target expressed in a text. However, effective neural stance detectors require substantial training data, which are challenging to curate due to the dynamic nature of social media. Moreover, deep neural networks (DNNs) lack explainability, rendering them unsuitable for scenarios requiring explanations. We propose a distantly supervised explainable stance detection framework (DS-ESD), comprising an instruction-based chain-of-thought (CoT) method, a generative network, and a transformer-based stance predictor. The CoT method employs prompt templates to extract stance detection explanations from a very large language model (VLLM). The generative network learns the input-explanation mapping, and a transformer-based stance classifier is trained with VLLM-annotated stance labels, implementing distant supervision. We propose a label rectification strategy to mitigate the impact of erroneous labels. Experiments on three benchmark datasets showed that our model outperformed the compared methods, validating its efficacy in stance detection tasks. This research contributes to the advancement of explainable stance detection frameworks, leveraging distant supervision and label rectification strategies to enhance performance and interpretability.

This paper investigates the joint allocation of power and circularity coefficient for an uplink multi-user nonorthogonal multiple access (NOMA) system employing improper Gaussian signaling (IGS) in the presence of imperfect successive interference cancellation. We propose two novel deep reinforcement learning (DRL) approaches to address the weighted sumrate maximization problem under quality of service constraints in this context. Instead of using widely linear transformation to amalgamate power and circularity coefficient into a unified precoding matrix, the two proposed DRL methods, referred to as interdependent deep deterministic policy gradient (I-DDPG) and collaborative DDPG (C-DDPG), both explicitly incorporate the factor of circularity coefficient in the optimization process, thereby enabling full exploitation of the interference management capabilities offered by IGS in the considered uplink NOMA system. Compared to I-DDPG, C-DDPG facilitates both collaborative training and independent adjustments of both decision variables, leading to enhanced generalization ability. Simulation results validate that the proposed DRL approaches achieve significant sum-rate improvement over conventional model-based optimization techniques, in which C-DDPG pushes individual user rates closer to the optimal NOMA boundary. Furthermore, our findings highlight the fact that the sub-optimality of the model-based optimization technique stems from its inability to fully utilize the circularity coefficient, rather than the power.
