Verónica Edith García is an associate professor at the University of Buenos Aires (UBA) School of Sciences and Principal Researcher at the National Council of Science and Technology (CONICET), Argentina. Dr. García obtained her PhD at UBA School of Sciences in 1992. Later, she did her post-doctorate training at the University of California at Los Angeles until December 1997. She investigates the immune response of patients with tuberculosis infection at the molecular and cellular levels. Her research focuses include the study of the role of soluble mediators on the autophagy process during human tuberculosis; the relationship between cytokine SNPs and susceptibility/resistance to tuberculosis; and the development of new vaccines to prevent tuberculosis, among others. Her awards include the Gold Medal Award granted by the Medical Association of the UBA School of Medicine (2001); Prof. Dr. Enrique Rossi Award endowed by the National Academy of Medicine (2003); Lucio CHERNY FOUNDATION Award given by the Argentinean Society of Clinical investigation (SAIC) (2020); Cesar Milstein Award (2021) granted by CONICET; among others. Memberships of professional societies: SAIC; Argentinean Association of Immunologists (SAI); American Association of Immunologists (AAI).
