An interactive scientific simulation and visualization pipeline in mixed reality was developed to explore how scientific simulation could proceed in coming workplace. The main technical concern is fast scientific simulator and visualizer in mixed reality with hand gesture. Framework for scientific simulation and visualization was implemented on the server side based on deep learning based fast simulation model and open source visualization toolkit, VTK, respectively. Airfoil aerodynamics was selected as a target scientific simulation task since it is a representative and critical problem in scientific fluid simulation determining the whole aero-product’s performance and shows highly nonlinear physics even by small shape deviation and so high computational cost. Therefore, the fast simulator was firstly developed by carefully developing convolutional neural network-based model, using U-net, which learned corresponding high accuracy simulation dataset. All scenes which are supposed to be seen on the mobile device side were authored in a widely used content development tool called Unity3D with a mixed reality toolkit, MRTK for Microsoft Hololens 2. User interface and user experience were created based on a scenario of a drone rotor which demonstrates running and analyzing the simulation results using designed interaction gestures. Finally, several discussions were derived through the implemented digital twin pipeline. It was concluded, with an adequately implemented mixed reality tools, that scientific researchers or industrial engineers will be helped not only in individual analysis works due to the delicacy of hands and fingers and real time interaction in mixed reality, but also, as a future study, in cooperative analysis works.

Most asymmetrical lateral forces occur in the reciprocating piston mechanism, which is widely applied as a major component of power equipment. When this lateral force greatly acts on the piston, it comes into contact with the cylinder. To prevent this negative phenomenon, lubrication characteristic evaluation and control technology are necessary. In this study, a boundary lubrication model considering the elastic deformation of the contact surface was adopted to perform a lubrication analysis of a piston hydraulic pump widely used in the aviation and plant industries. The piston/cylinder mechanism was analyzed in terms of contact force, characteristic thickness, and power loss while varying various design and operating parameters (friction coefficient, clearance, profiling shape, operating speed, and pressure). In the overall bearing capacity to withstand the tilt of the piston, the bearing capacity ratio due to contact at the interface increased more steeply than the bearing capacity ratio in the fluid lubrication area. Profiling of the piston head played a positive role in reducing power loss but also increased piston tilt. This trend appeared more clearly as the head profiling degree of processing Increased. Lastly, the effects of variable operating speed and pressure were examined. High operating speed caused low contact force, and high operating pressure caused high contact force. Through this study, it was possible to predict the lubrication performance and power loss of reciprocating piston pumps used in the field more realistically through appropriate boundary lubrication modeling.

Objectives: The aim of this study is to analyze data from 36 cases of combined Korean medicine treatment, including TBT to evaluate its effectiveness in correcting facial asymmetry. Methods: Using the initial charts, DSLR photographs, and cranial X-ray images of 36 patients who received facial asymmetry correction treatment, changes in angles along the midline and horizontal plane, as well as differences in the ratio of left and right jaw lengths, were measured and analyzed. Improvement rates were calculated for each factor, and a paired sample t-test was used to determine the statistical significance of pre- and post-treatment differences. Results: The changes in angles measured in the soft tissue analysis showed statistically significant improvements according to the t-test (p < 0.05). Similarly, cephalometric analysis also demonstrated statistically significant improvements (p < 0.05). The highest correction rate was observed in the angle formed by the line drawn vertically from the clavicle midline and the line connecting the clavicle midline to the center of the glabella, with an improvement of 74.74 ± 21.15%. The correction rate for the ratio of the line connecting the ends of both rami from the midline (LL/RL) was the third highest at 60.42 ± 37.08%, but this change was not statistically significant in the t-test.Conclusion: This study suggests that non-surgical Korean medicine treatments, such as TBT, may have a statistically significant effect on correcting facial asymmetry.

Sensing pressure is widely needed technique in the industry such as plant, vehicle, aerospace, and etc. Since each pressure sensor has its own ranges of operating conditions, but the manufacturers give quite large design margins. So although the sensors has own lifetimes, they are regarded as hardly failed products. This study developed the accelerated life test system of pressure sensors, and the failure monitoring and predicting module in the system was a differentiated tool developed using a data-driven algorithm. This module were expected to save the test time since specimens which do not fail yet can be regarded as failed ones. As a preliminary commitment, 8 specimens were used in the test bench. Although classical Weibull analysis and accelerated life test method can handle these censored data, prognostic judgments of the censored data can give another analysis result. The signal-based analysis in this study showed that mean and deviation values of pressure sensor signals did not represent the failure prediction metric and so researchers should devised other approaches to substitute the classical reliability analysis.
