Information

Ricardo F.M. Teixeira is an agri-food expert with vast international experience. He graduated in Environmental Engineering in 2005 from the Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), University of Lisbon (UL), after winning two Diplomas of Merit for the highest average yearly grade in the degree. In 2010 he completed his PhD in the same scientific area at the IST. He also obtained an MSc in Economics in 2008 from the UL. After his PhD, he moved into the private sector in France (2011–2013) as an IT and Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) sustainability consultant for Carbonostics, where he worked with some of the biggest players in food manufacturing. He moved to Belgium (2013–2015), where he obtained a Marie Skłodowska-Curie (MSC) Fellowship and worked on biodiversity indicators in LCA at the University of Antwerp. He is currently Assistant Researcher at IST. His main area of research can be described as environmental modelling and assessment as he combines multiple approaches from data and computational sciences, such as process-based modelling (PBM) and machine learning (ML) combined with remotely sensed data, applied to problems mostly related with environmentally sustainable production and consumption of agri-food products. He authored ~50 scientific papers and has an h-index of 22 (Google Scholar). Additionally, he have been teaching Industrial Ecology and supervising 20+ Msc and PhD students, besides being Principal Investigator in multiple research projects.
