Irina G. Goryacheva is a Professor and Head of the Tribology Laboratory of the Ishlinsky Institute for Problems in Mechanics of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) and an academician of RAS. She graduated Lomonosov Moscow State University (1970) and then received her PhD degree there (1974). He also received a D. Sci. degree (1988) while working at the Institute for Problems in Mechanics (1973-til now). She is the author of more than 200 papers and 8 books in the field of contact mechanics and tribology. She has developed analytical methods of solutions of contact problems for deformable bodies with various surface microgeometries, taking into account the effects of mutual influence of contact spots, wear, adhesion, surface films and layers, and inhomogeneity of material properties. She is the President of the Russian Tribology Council (from 2003 till now), the Chair of the Russian National Committee of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics (from 2011 till now), and a member of the IUTAM Directors Board and Vice President of the World Tribology Council. She was awarded the State Prize for Young Researchers in the Field of Science and Technology (1979), the Russian Government Prize in the Field of Science and Technology (2007), and the World Tribology Gold Medal (2009).
