Maria Antonietta Blasi is Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at the Fondazione Policlinico Universitario Gemelli IRCCS Catholic University in Rome, where she is currently Director of the Ocular Oncology Unit. She received her medical degree with honours from the University of Rome “La Sapienza” and completed her Residency in Ophthalmology at the same University (post-graduation with honours). Her main fields of activity include Ocular Pathology and Ocular Oncology. Among her original contributions there are: Topical chemotherapy with Interferon alpha for conjunctival MALT lymphoma (2001, 2012), Topical chemotherapy with Imiquimod for eyelid basal cell carcinoma (2005) and PDT before brachytherapy for amelanotic melanoma (2016). INTERACTS guidelines for quality assurance in choroidal melanoma interventional radiotherapy (brachytherapy) procedures (2017), Nomogram for predicting radiation maculopathy in patients treated with Ruthenium-106 plaque brachytherapy for uveal melanoma (2017). She is an active member of several scientific societies, including Italian Society of Ocular Oncology, (Secretary-Treasurer), Italian Society of Ophthalmology, Italian Society of Laser in Ophthalmology (Secretary-Treasurer), European Ophthalmic Pathology Society (Corresponding Secretary 2005-2008), Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology, Ophthalmic Oncology Group (OOG) of EORTC and the International Society of Ocular Oncology.
