I am a cellular immunologist specialised in vaccine development at the UNSW RNA Institute. Originally from Spain, where I completed my undergrad studies, I obtained my PhD at the University of Bonn, in Germany, and did my post-doc at the Doherty Institute in Melbourne. I relocated to UNSW in 2023. My research studies fundamental T cell biology and T cell immunity to infectious diseases, and applies this knowledge to the development of experimental T cell-based vaccines in preclinical models of infection, as well as to translation into human vaccines. I have pioneered the study of tissue resident memory T cells in the liver and the generation of novel vaccines that exploit the remarkable protective features of these cells against malaria.
