Biography

Leandro Lorenzelli received an M.Sc. in Electronic Engineering from the University of Genoa, Italy, and a Ph.D. from the University of Trento, Italy, in 1996. He is Head of Microsystems Technology (MST) at the Sensors and Devices Center of Fondazione Bruno Kessler (FBK-SD), Trento, Italy. Throughout his career, he has led pioneering R&D activities in sensors and MEMS technologies, including bioelectrochemical sensors, microfluidics, lab-on-a-chip systems, and gas-flow sensing devices. Several of the microsystems developed under his leadership achieved state-of-the-art performance and were successfully transferred to high-volume industrial production through startup companies. His research has also addressed flexible electronics for robotics, resulting in innovative thin CMOS-based tactile sensors and flexible fingerprint sensing technologies. In addition, he has contributed to the development of memristive devices as adaptive memory elements and building blocks for neuromorphic computing systems. His current interests include silicon microsystems for studying 3D neural cultures and organoids, microfluidic platforms for monitoring microplastics in aquatic environments, and electromagnetic metasurfaces. He has authored or co-authored more than 100 peer-reviewed publications and holds four patents. He has served as Associate Editor and Guest Editor for several international journals and is an active member of the technical committees of leading international conferences.
