Prof. Dr. Patrizia Burra is a professor in gastroenterology at the Department of Surgery, Oncology and Gastroenterology of the University of Padua. She earned a medical degree from the University of Padua (Italy) in 1984, followed by a specialization in gastroenterology and endoscopy. Later, she completed her PhD studies in hepatology at the same school in 1993. On 1st October 2023, she became the director of gastroenterology at Padua University Hospital. Between 2015 and 2021, she was vice-rector of research training at Padua University. Since 2021, she has been the rector’s delegate for specialization schools and the Centre for Post Graduate Specialised Training at Padua University. Since 2021, she has been the director of the Specialization School in Digestive System Diseases at Padua University, and since 2023, the director of the Inter-University Master in Transplant Medicine and Advanced Hepatology (partners: Padua University and University of Milano-Bicocca). She has been working on both basic and clinical research for years, with her main clinical research interests in complications of cirrhosis and liver transplantation. Nowadays, she has been a co-chair of The Lancet–EASL Commission on liver diseases in Europe since 2018 and a deputy editor of the Journal of Hepatology since 2019. She has published over 550 papers in various journals, including articles, reviews, and so on, with a current h-index of 67 (February 2024).
