Dr. Davin G. Piercey is currently an Assistant Professor at the Purdue Energetics Research Center, School of Materials Engineering, School of Mechanical Engineering, Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN, USA. He completed his Ph.D. studies in Inorganic Chemistry at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München. His research focuses on the synthesis of and application of high-nitrogen compounds. He is a co-inventor of TKX-50, an explosive with low sensitivity and environmental footprint that outperforms HMX and approaches CL-20 level performance. His skills in high-nitrogen and energetic materials chemistry have led to him being the keynote speaker at various international conferences, and he taught courses on this style of chemistry to various audiences. Current research focuses include the development of new methods of high-nitrogen heterocycle synthesis and bringing high nitrogen heterocyclic chemistry from the energetics field to the medical and renewable energy fields.
