Biography

Ramón Martínez-Máñez received Chemistry and PhD degrees from the University of Valencia in 1986 and 1990, respectively. After a postdoctoral period in Cambridge, U.K., he joined the Department of Chemistry, Universitat Politècnica de València. He became a Full Professor in 2002. His main areas of interest are in the field of controlled delivery systems and communication between micro/nanoparticles. Professor Martínez-Máñez has worked for more than 25 years in the design of molecular probes and chemical sensors, which allow to observe modifications in the molecules that cause color changes in sensors or fluorescence. He has obtained an ERC Advanced Grant—the most prestigious grant from the European Research Council)—for the development of the EDISON project (Engineered Particles for Chemical Communication).
