Degree in Biology from the Faculty of Sciences of the UEX in 1997 and doctorate from the UEX with mention of "European Doctor" and the Doctoral Thesis Award in 2003.
Participation in at least 27 research projects (1999–present): five as principal researcher, two as predoctoral research fellow, six as collaborating researcher and eleven as a member of the research team. Supervision of 11 doctoral theses and more than 30 master final projects.
Eighty international scientific articles (approx. 60% being the first in their area of knowledge); three book chapters; and more than 160 communications to congresses, conferences and seminars given.
Predoctoral (2000–2002) stays at the Medical University of Debrecen (Hungary, one month) and Karolinska Institutet (Stockholm, Sweden, one months). Postdoctoral stay for 29 months (2003–2005) at the Center for Research in Health Sciences (CICS) at the Universidade da Beira Interior (Portugal). Two stays of less than one month (2014 and 2015) at the Autonomous Metropolitan University of Mexico.
Assistant Professor (2003–2005) of Pharmacology and Endocrine System and Metabolism in the Bachelor of Medicine at the University of Beira Interior (Portugal), and currently teaching Pharmacology, Biochemistry and Psychopharmacology subjects in Medicine, Podiatry and Psychology bachelors.
