This study was conducted to adapt the Fear of Earthquake Scale to Turkish. The methodological study, in which individuals in the 15–65 age group were included in the study, was carried out between March–April 2023. The sample consisted of 1054 participants 15 to 65 years of age divided into two for explanatory factor analysis (n = 431) and confirmatory factor analysis (n = 623). The original Fear of Earthquake Scale has a one, factor structure with 7 items. The explanatory factor analysis (EFA) sample had a mean age of 26.6 + 6.7 years. Over half of the EFA participants were women (65.1%) and single (69.8%). The Turkish version of the Fear of Earthquake Scale has acceptable content and construct validity. It consists of seven items without subscales. It accounts for 65.8% of the total variance, which is quite high for a single-factor scale. It has a Cronbach’s alpha of 0.91, indicating high reliability. The original Fear of Earthquake Scale items are scored on a five-point Likert scale. No items are reverse-scored. The total score is the sum of the item scores. The total score ranges from 7 to 35, with higher scores indicating greater fear of earthquakes. The results indicate that the Turkish version of the Fear of Earthquake Scale is a valid and reliable instrument that can be used to assess Turkish people’s fear of earthquakes.

This study aimed to examine the effect of disaster preparedness literacy on individual disaster resilience and related factors. The universe of the research consists of individuals between the ages of 18-52. Software packages AMOS 23 and SPSS 26 were used to analyze the study’s data. Mann Whitney U test and Kruskal Wallis H test were used for non-parametric variables, whereas the T test and ANOVA were used for parametric variables. The associations between variables were investigated using correlation analysis and basic linear regression analysis. According to the findings, as disaster literacy increases, individual disaster resilience increases. The individual disaster resilience level of males was higher than that of females, the individual disaster resilience level of married individuals was higher than that of single individuals, and those who have experienced a disaster before have a higher level of individual disaster resilience than those who haven’t experienced a disaster. Males have higher levels of disaster literacy than females. Married individuals have higher disaster literacy levels than singles. As the age increases, the level of individual disaster resilience and disaster literacy increases. It is considered important to develop community-based disaster awareness training programs and strategies to increase individual disaster resilience.

This study aimed to examine the factors associated with earthquake fear and coping strategies developed by people. This cross-sectional and descriptive study was conducted with individuals over 18 years of age. The sample of the study consisted of 883 people who agreed to participate in the study. The study data were collected using the "Personal Characteristics Form", "Fear of Earthquake Scale", and "Coping with Earthquake Stress Scale". In the study, it was found that females' level of earthquake fear is higher than that of males. Married individuals have a higher level of earthquake fear compared to single individuals. It was found that those who received disaster awareness training and those who wanted to receive disaster awareness training had lower earthquake fear mean scores. As the levels of seeking social support, using religious coping, and positive reappraisal increase, the level of earthquake fear decreases. It has been determined that seeking social support is more commonly used than religious coping and positive reappraisal to cope with earthquake fear. Social support has been found to be a significant factor in coping with earthquake fear.

Disasters are events that occur since the beginning of time. When previous records are investigated, information on various types of disasters occurred in different parts of the World are encountered. Disasters occur unexpectedly and require constant state of preparedness. No matter how extensive the precautions are, disasters cannot be prevented, but the precautions significantly contribute to the reduction of negative consequences to a minimum. In this context, response plans to events that may occur are as important as the preparedness plans. Responding to disaster victims on time, correctly and efficiently reduces the mortality rate to a minimum as well as increasing the survival rate. Correct classification of the victims based on the life threatening events or the priority of their injuries, providing transport, and ensuring each individual receives emergency aid should be the main goals of triage. That is, to be the most helpful to as many injured people as one can by using the limited opportunities available. A successfully performed triage not only increases the success of the healthcare team’s response, it also enables healthy execution of scene management. In this study, the aim is to provide information about START scale composed of the first letters of “Simple Triage And Rapid Treatment” that has been developed and accepted to be used in mass events.
