This paper considers the $\mathscr{L}_{2}$ string stability analysis and controller synthesis for vehicle platooning under jamming attacks and interferences from other communication channels. Jamming attacks and interferences for vehicle platooning systems are modeled as periodic denial of service attacks. Further, the vehicle platooning with denial of service attacks is modeled as a distributed switching system where an average dwell time approach is adopted for the stability analysis. Under the distributed switching system framework, this paper presents a co-design paradigm for the vehicle platooning. The distributed event-triggered method (ETM) and controllers are presented to guarantee $\mathscr{L}_{2}$ string stability, which can ensure that the output cannot be amplified along the vehicle platooning. Sufficient conditions for $\mathscr{L}_{2}$ string stability are then provided to guide the co-design of the ETM and controllers, which can be efficiently obtained by solving LMIs. Simulation results are presented to demonstrate the efficacy of the proposed co-design approach in addressing the denial of service attacks for vehicle platooning systems.

Fault-tolerant control of a quadrotor in extreme conditions, such as rotor failure and strong winds, is exceptionally challenging due to its underactuated nature, strong mismatched disturbances, and highly nonlinear multi-input and multi-output properties. This letter proposes a reduced attitude control approach that combines a model-based extended state observer (MB-ESO) and mismatched disturbance decoupling to control a quadrotor under strong winds and complete loss of two opposing rotors. Our MB-ESO based control provides a new theoretical framework for more general nonlinear systems by utilizing all measurable outputs, thereby maximizing the use of all available information to design a robust controller. Testing in a high-fidelity simulator shows that our approach outperforms the state-of-the-art Incremental Nonlinear Dynamic Inversion method.

This article considers a codesign problem for industrial networked control systems to ensure both stability and efficiency properties of such systems. This problem is particularly challenging due to the fact that wireless communications in industrial environments are not only subject to shadow fading, but also stochastically correlated with their surrounding environments. This article first introduces a novel state-dependent Markov channel (SD-MC) model that explicitly captures the state-dependent features of industrial wireless communication systems by defining the proposed model’s transition probabilities as a function of both environments’ states and transmission power. Under the SD-MC model, sufficient conditions on Maximum Allowable Transmission Interval are presented to ensure both asymptotic stability in expectation and almost sure asymptotic stability properties of a nonlinear control system with state-dependent fading channels . Based on these stability conditions, the codesign problem is then formulated as a constrained polynomial optimization problem (CPOP), which can be efficiently solved using semidefinite programming methods for the case of a two-state SD-MC model. The solutions to such a CPOP represent optimal control and power strategies that optimize the average expected joint costs in an infinite time horizon while respecting the stability constraints. For a general SD-MC model, this article further shows that suboptimal solutions can be obtained from linear programming formulations of the considered CPOP. Simulation results are given to illustrate the efficacy of the proposed codesign scheme.
