Biography

Dr. Adnan Asad Karim is a researcher at the University of Jaén (Spain), specializing in sustainable biorefinery and biomanufacturing. His research focuses on biomass waste valorisation by integrating thermochemical and biotechnological processes to advance the circular bioeconomy and resource efficiency. He holds a PhD in Biological Sciences (2018) from CSIR–Institute of Minerals and Materials Technology (Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research), India, where he pioneered pyrolysis and thermal plasma technologies for agricultural waste valorisation, leading to a licensed patent. In 2022, Dr. Karim joined the University of Jaén (Spain) as a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellow to lead the OliPFUEL project, and upon its completion, he continued to work there as a researcher. Currently, he leads research on microwave-assisted hydrothermal pretreatment and inhibitor-resistant fermentation of various agro-residues. His work addresses critical challenges in process robustness, scalability, and eco-efficiency, aligning directly with Horizon Europe and Spanish innovation strategies
