Dr Hammouda graduated with an MSc degree from Benghazi University, Libya and a PhD from the University of Cape Town. His research focuses on the design of new drugs that will alleviate the inflammation associated with rheumatoid arthritis. These drugs need to be administered dermally and be selective for Cu(II) so that they do not affect the speciation of other metal ions in blood plasma.
