Language provides significant insights into an individual’s emotional state, social status, and personality traits. This research aims to enhance depression detection through the analysis of linguistic features and various dataset attributes. The dataset, sourced from the social networking platform Reddit, comprises posts and comments from individuals diagnosed with depression. Logistic regression with term frequency-inverse document frequency (TF-IDF) is employed as the primary model for text classification. To improve model performance, a novel feature—the average time interval between consecutive posts or comments—is introduced, contributing to a marginal but noteworthy improvement in accuracy. The proposed model demonstrates superior F1 scores compared to other models applied to the same dataset. Given the increasing recognition of mental health’s significance, accurately diagnosing mental disorders is of paramount importance. This study underscores the potential of leveraging linguistic analysis and advanced machine learning techniques to identify depressive symptoms, thereby contributing to more effective mental health diagnostics and interventions.

This chapter delves into the significance of explainable artificial intelligence (XAI) in emotion detection (ED) systems, which aim to provide transparency and interpretability in affective computing. The chapter introduces ED systems, defining their purpose and importance in various industries. Subsequently, the need for XAI in emotion detection is discussed, emphasizing ethical concerns, legal requirements, and user trust. Next, the fundamentals of ED systems are explored, encompassing techniques for emotion recognition via facial expressions, voice tones, and text. The challenges associated with these techniques, including variability in human expressions, cultural differences, and data scarcity, are addressed. Next, explanation methods for ED models, and the popular XAI frameworks are presented and evaluated. Quantitative and qualitative evaluation metrics are employed to assess the effectiveness of XAI in ED. Lastly, three case studies demonstrate the successful application of XAI, and as research evolves, future directions that include advanced explainable ED are discussed.

Water quality is of utmost importance for the health and welfare of humans, animals, plants, industries, and the whole ecosystem. Contamination and pollution have had a negative impact on water quality in recent decades. Ensuring the water's purity is vital for the well-being of the population and the long-term preservation of the ecosystem. Conventional approaches to monitoring and predicting water quality often lack precision and promptness. This study investigates ensemble machine learning methods to increase water quality forecast accuracy to address these issues. This method integrates Random Forest, K-Nearest Neighbour, and logistic regression to improve prediction accuracy and durability. The ensemble technique is analyzed using a large dataset of pH, turbidity, dissolved oxygen, and chemical contaminants. The results demonstrate significant improvements in predicting accuracy when compared to individual models, offering a more reliable tool for water quality management. This work showcases the efficacy of ensemble machine learning in producing pragmatic insights for optimizing water management techniques. The system attains an exceptional degree of accuracy, with a rate of 99.98%. Additionally, it demonstrates a high level of precision at 99.87%, recall at 99.67%, F1-score at 99.89%, and Matthews correlation coefficient at 97.86%. These findings have significant implications for improving resource management and protecting the environment.

Machine Learning (ML) with distributed privacy preservation is growing in significance as it focuses on facilitating multi-party learning without requiring actual data sharing. This is especially helpful for companies that want to work together but are unable to do so because of ethical, regulatory, or budgetary constraints on sharing data. In order to address these issues, this study examines three privacy-preserving algorithms: regularized logistic regression with Differential Privacy (DP), stochastic gradient descent (SGD) with differentially private updates, and a distributed Lasso that distributes gradients among data centers. The study emphasizes the relationship between error rate and privacy through these algorithms. In order to improve error rates for large datasets, both DP algorithms modify their sensitivity dependent on the amount of data, highlighting the significance of training data volume in model performance in the study. Results demonstrate that using the SGD; error rate can be reduced by employing random projections in advance.

Personalized treatment for diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs) is crucial for optimal healing, minimizing complications, and reducing healthcare costs. Machine learning (ML) offers solutions to DFU complexities through accurate predictions, timely interventions, and customized treatments. This chapter delves into advanced ML algorithms for DFU care. Ensemble learning techniques like random forests and gradient boosting enhance model performance and interpretability. Deep learning architectures such as recurrent neural networks (RNNs) and convolutional neural networks (CNNs) process sequential data and images. Reinforcement learning, including Q-learning, is proposed for adaptive treatment plans from real-world inputs. Applications of these ML algorithms include predictive analytics, early detection systems, and multi-factor decision-making. Case studies highlight their clinical effectiveness, improved patient outcomes, and valuable insights. This chapter underscores ML's transformative role in advancing personalized DFU treatment.

Language can disclose a lot about a person's emotional condition, social standing, and even personality. In the proposed research, the authors looked at the words that are most helpful in determining if a person is depressed or not. Additionally, the authors tried to include a variety of dataset features to see if they could help us form a more accurate judgement. The authors obtained the data from the social networking site Reddit. It includes erratic messages and comments made by a group of depressed people. Given that it performed the best, the authors used logistic regression using the Term Frequency-Inverse Document Frequency (TFIDF) for the proposed model. One of the factors that contributed to a marginal speed improvement was the average time between two consecutive postings or comments. In F1-score, the proposed model fared better than other models utilising the same dataset. The diagnosis of mental disease is turning into a significant issue as people's understanding of the value of mental health grows. Many psychiatrists found it challenging to make a diagnosis of mental disease in a patient due to the complexity of each mental disorder, making it impossible to start the patient on the right course of treatment before it was too late. However, the significance of integrating into people's daily life has produced a setting in which further knowledge about a patient's mental illness may be acquired.
