My current research is focused on the carbon cycle in the mountain–oasis–desert ecosystem of arid regions, organic carbon dynamics and driving mechanisms, and inorganic carbon composition and sources. For the organic carbon cycle of an oasis ecosystem, I analyzed the relationship between soil carbon dynamics and human farming activities in typical watersheds of the arid region using an improved CENTURY model. For the inorganic carbon cycle of a desert ecosystem, I analyzed the composition and source of soil inorganic carbon and its response to oasis farming activities in arid regions through stable isotope and radioisotope methods. A study of mine on the forest ecosystem carbon cycle of Central Asia was based on a large number of forest sample plot surveys and an evaluation of the carbon pools of forest ecosystems in the Tianshan and Altai Mountains (current status, capacities and sinks, and studies on mechanisms).
