Dr Edson Cavalcanti da Silva Filho is an Associate Professor at the Department of Chemistry, Federal University of Piauí. He has experience in the area of Chemistry and Materials, with emphasis on Biopolymers, Biomaterials, Surface and Materials Chemistry. He holds a Ph.D. in Sciences (Inorganic Chemistry) from Unicamp (2008), a master's degree in Inorganic Chemistry from UFPB (2005), a degree in Chemistry from UEPB (2003), and a three-year degree in Chemical Engineering from UFPB, now UFCG. He works mainly on the following topics: modification of hydroxylated or nitrogenous surfaces (cellulose, chitosan, silica, mesoporous silica, phyllosilicate, clays, and phosphates), characterization of materials (thermogravimetry, FTIR, NMR, Surface Area, elemental analysis, FRX, DRX), sorption of species and is initiating studies on the controlled release of species, materials with antimicrobial properties, studies with phosphate-based biomaterials and the photodegradation of pollutant species through natural clays with incorporated oxides.
