Risk of Breast Cancer among Young Women and Importance of Early Screening Breast cancer screening;breast self-examination;young women;risk;Pakistan; Background: Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer in women throughout the world. However, in comparison with Western women, it presents relatively early in women of Asian ethnicity. Early menarche, late menopause, use of OCP's, family history of benign or malignant breast disease, exposure to radiation and BMI in the under-weight range are well known risk factors for the development of breast cancer in premenopausal women. Early detection with the use of breast self-examination (BSE) and breast cancer screening programs can lead to a reduction in the mortality rates due to breast cancer. The aim of our study was to assess the risk factors for breast cancer among young women and to emphasize the importance of early screening among them. Materials and Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional study among women aged 18 to 25 using a self-administered questionnaire. Data was collected over a period of 6 months from June to December, 2014. A total of 300 young women selected randomly from Dow Medical College and various departments of Karachi University successfully completed the survey. Results: Respondents were 18-25 years of age (mean age=21.5). Out of the 300 young females, 90 (30%) had at least one risk factor, 90 (30%) had two, 40 (13%) had three, 8 (2.7%) had four, 2 (0.7%) had five while one female was found to have six positive risk factors for breast cancer. Some 66 women (22%) experienced symptoms of breast cancer such as non-cyclical pain and lumps. While 222 women (74%) had never performed breast self-examination, 22 (7.3%) had had a breast examination done by a health professional while 32 (10.7%) had participated in breast screening programs. A total of 223 (74.3%) women considered breast cancer screening important for young women. Conclusions: The percentage of young women with risk factors for breast cancer was found to be alarmingly high. Therefore, screening for breast cancer should start at an early age especially in high risk groups. Awareness about breast self-examination should be emphasized. Moreover, screening programs should be started to ensure early detection and reduction of mortality rates caused by breast cancer also in young Pakistani females.

Molecular modeling has garnered significant attention in the realm of organic solar cells (OSCs) because it holds the promise of producing more efficient OSCs with notably enhanced power conversion efficiency (PCE). In this quest, we have undertaken a strategic modification of the acceptor moieties within the recently synthesized metal-free dicarbazole-based organic dye Cz-2, resulting in five novel theoretical dyes, designated as PT1-PT5. Numerous simulations encompassed both the newly designed compounds and the reference (Cz-2) by using DFT and TD-DFT, a comprehensive characterization aimed at enhancing photovoltaic and optoelectronic properties. We probed into the analysis of ground state geometry, frontier molecular orbitals, transition density matrix, optical properties, density of state, binding energy, molecular electrostatic potential, reorganizational energy, open-circuit voltage, and fill factor. Our findings unveiled a common trend among all the theoretical dyes, a reduction in band gap (Eg), a notable red-shift in absorbance ranging from 434 nm to 554 nm, and lowered binding and excitation energy. The decreased reorganization energy i.e., λ e and λ h, spanning a range from 0.0040 to 0.0052 eV and 0.0043 to 0.0075 eV respectively, promised significantly enhanced charge mobility. Intriguingly, the binding energies of all the designed compounds consistently registered values lower than that of reference (R), with figures ranging from 0.55 to 0.64 eV, compared to the binding energy of R (0.67 eV). These dyes show significant potential for indoor photovoltaics as they can absorb light in the visible range for indoor renewable energy applications. Our comprehensive analyses suggest that PT1-PT5 are promising candidates with great potential for advancing the field of renewable energy.

Introduction and importance: The curative options for locally advanced hepatocellular carcinomas involving the vessels are very limited. Ex vivo liver resection and auto transplantation (ERAT) is a novel surgical method, which has been used in the management of such complex liver space occupying lesions, which are rendered conventionally unresectable. This technique involves a complete hepatectomy, extracorporeal hepatic resection on the backbench, and then reimplantation of the remnant hepatic parenchyma. George et al. (2019) [1] In literature, Ex vivo liver resection and auto transplantation (ERAT) has been utilized in the management of both benign and malignant liver lesions, including hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), cholangiocarcinoma, hepatic metastases, hepatic alveolar echinococcosis, focal nodular hyperplasia and hemangioma. Zawistowski et al. (2020) [2]. Case presentation: We report this case of a 28 years old male with a giant hepatocellular carcinoma, that deemed unresectable as it was closely abutting all three hepatic veins. After appropriate preoperative surgical planning, he underwent ex vivo liver resection and autotransplantation (ERAT). Patient had gradual uneventful recovery and he was discharged home on 12th postoperative day. Clinical discussion: A radical (R0) resection is the main goal of the ex vivo liver resection and autotransplantation (ERAT) procedure, which can be used for curative intent in patients with liver lesions that are conventionally inoperable. It allows for precise extracorporeal resection, maximizes the residual liver volume and increases the likelihood of obtaining negative margins. Furthermore, the bench surgery in ice bath makes it easier to reconstruct the vasculature without the pressure of time constraints in situ, unlike conventional surgery, which can take a long time when done in a bleeding operative field. Zawistowski et al. (2020) [2]. Conclusion: For patients with complex liver lesions believed to be incurable with conventional surgical methods, ex vivo liver resection and autotransplantation (ERAT) provides an alternative.
