Pengwan Chen is a Research Fellow of the State Key Laboratory of Explosion Science and Technology (Beijing Institute of Technology) and Head of the School of Materials Science and Engineering, Beijing Institute of Technology. He is a vice director of the Committee of Explosion and Safety Technology, China Ordnance Society, and an Executive member of the Beijing Society of Engineering Blasting. He received a BS and an MS from Kunming University of Science and Technology in 1993 and 1996, respectively, and a PhD from Beijing Institute of Technology in 1999. He worked as a Post-Doctoral fellow at the Institute of Mechanics, Chinese Academy of Sciences during 1999-2001. His research interests include dynamic processing of materials and dynamic synthesis of materials by shock waves (explosive welding, explosive powder compaction, material synthesis by shock-induced phase transition and chemical reaction, material modification by shock wave), dynamic mechanical behavior of materials, numerical simulation on explosion and impact problems, engineering blasting technology, safety measurement and evaluation of explosives.
