The studies carried out address an important problem for the concrete and asphalt industry, referring to the wear phenomena that affect the elements (flights) of rotary dryers used to dry mineral aggregates. In this article, the authors propose a lifetime estimation method for rotary dryer flights. In order to benefit from greater credibility, the proposed method was applied based on the experimental results obtained, by the authors, in the laboratory, on a stand that reproduces a portion of the real equipment. Starting from these results, the authors identified the mathematical functions used to model the failure rates (wear) of the flights by referring to characteristic quantities for wear evaluation: mass loss of material; reduction in the thickness of the part; surface affected by wear. The experimental data—the input data for the proposed algorithm—correspond to six steels used in industrial applications. The wear phenomenon was modeled considering both the situation of uniform wear and the situation of differentiated wear on the flight surface. Therefore, the steel type with the highest service life values could be identified, namely, steel grades E and G. The method proposed in this paper can be extended to any category of material or part provided that the failure rate function is identified beforehand, possibly based on a laboratory experiment.

Video surveillance systems have become pervasive in contemporary society, prompting growing concerns about their psychological and behavioral effects on individuals. This study investigates how perceived surveillance influences self-censorship and behavioral regulation in monitored environments, drawing on the conceptual framework of panoptic self-regulation and surveillance-induced anxiety. A structured questionnaire was administered to 358 university students, and data were analyzed using exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis to validate latent constructs, followed by ordinal logistic regression and mediation analysis to test key hypotheses. The results indicate that individuals who perceive higher psychological pressure due to surveillance are more likely to modify their behavior, exhibiting heightened self-awareness and restraint. Additionally, belief in the active monitoring of surveillance footage significantly amplifies behavioral vigilance. The perception of the technological omnipresence of surveillance further intensifies psychological discomfort, which mediates behavioral change. These findings conceptualize video surveillance as a socio-technical system that exerts behavioral influence through internalized psychological mechanisms. The study highlights the importance of considering the unintended consequences of surveillance technologies on autonomy and freedom, and it suggests that regulatory frameworks should account not only for legal compliance but also for the psychological impact of surveillance. The results provide empirical support for viewing surveillance systems as dynamic regulators of human behavior.

The period of the Covid 19 pandemic meant for the tourism industry a moment of general assessment of its own route. The plans and programs in which this industry was active at the time of the outbreak of the pandemic were closely related to the transformation of this industry into one that operates based on the principles of sustainability. The decrease in the number of arrivals, the practical stoppage for a period of this economic sector, attracted by itself determinations regarding the value volumes of the decreases in economic indicators but also research for the possibilities of further development of this industry. It can thus be noted that at the level of Romania, the decrease in the number of arrivals was over 50% in 2020 compared to 2019. In addition, although the forecasts of the World Tourism Organization indicated a relatively quick return in 2021, this did not happen in Romania, the value level being in 2021 at approximately 70% compared to 2019. The purpose of this article is to analyze the behavior of tourism demand and supply in the three periods, namely: pre-pandemic, pandemic and post-pandemic. The data are based on records from the National Institute of Statistics, as well as studies and research carried out on this topic. The conclusions of the determinations carried out are mainly related to the nature of isolated tourism observed during the pandemic, but also to the behavior of entrepreneurs in the sector who reacted immediately in the development of these areas.

In the cement concrete manufacturing industry, mixers are critical pieces of equipment that play an essential role. Mixers ensure, by mechanically mixing the materials that make up the concrete, the homogeneity of the mixture. Since the active elements of the mixer in the concrete industry—the mixing blades—come into permanent contact with the mineral aggregates in the mixture formed by water and cement, they are permanently subjected to a strong abrasive–erosive wear process. The authors of this article were concerned with the establishment of tribological models for studying the wear of mixing blades, in order to identify the influence of their constructive parameters on the wear intensity. A complex model (Kraghelsky–Nepomnyashchi model) was adopted for the study. The modeling results revealed that the wear intensity decreases with an increasing blade angle of attack and increases linearly with increasing speed, as well as with an increasing friction coefficient. The modeling results confirm that the wear intensity is lowest when the mixing blade is inclined at a 60° angle, while the highest value is recorded for 30°. By identifying the angle at which the greatest wear of blades occurs, interventions can be made in the design of a more durable mixer (with the optimal installation angle of the mixer blades), thus requiring fewer corrective maintenance interventions. Based on these findings, we conclude that the complex model used in the experiment can provide a convenient and efficient tool for the study of erosive–abrasive phenomena.

This chapter critically examines the alignment of green human resource management (Green HRM) practices—specifically in recruitment, training and development, and performance management—with legal standards, focusing on privacy protection, personal data security, and anti-discrimination laws. It also explores the potential to integrate sustainability features into established workplace systems and practices, such as near miss management systems, to enhance environmental responsibility within organizations. This method is advantageous as it utilizes existing tools and procedures familiar to employees, ensuring smoother implementation while leveraging prior legal evaluations.

Accident investigations in high-risk industries frequently focus on attributing unsafe acts to individual operators, often neglecting the organizational conditions that shape such behaviors. This study adopts an exploratory perspective to examine how communication, resource adequacy, and procedural design influence the potential for unsafe acts in refinery maintenance operations within the oil and gas sector. Building on the HFACS-OGI framework, unsafe acts were classified into perception errors, decoding errors, model errors, decision errors, and violations. Data were collected through a survey (n = 46) and analyzed using ordinal logistic regression with 10,000 bootstrap replications, complemented by partial correlation analysis to capture indirect associations. The results provide preliminary evidence that organizational factors operate both as direct predictors of unsafe acts and as systemic pathways linking broader contextual conditions with operator behavior. In particular, deficiencies in communication emerged as a transversal determinant, partially explaining the relationship between organizational context and both perception and decision errors. While limited by sample size and exploratory design, the study contributes to safety science by extending the empirical application of HFACS-OGI beyond post-accident analysis and offering actionable insights for safety governance. The findings underscore the need for proactive organizational interventions that enhance communication systems, ensure resource adequacy, and promote the usability of procedures in order to mitigate the potential for unsafe acts.
